Actor Thuong Tin was over 60 years old when he was alive. |
Composer Tô Hiếu, who was close to Thương Tín in his final days, said that before his death, the actor lived at his mother's house. He was paralyzed on one side of his body, went through a period of decline in his health and spirits, and suffered from many underlying illnesses. Composer Tô Hiếu was present at the actor's home to help with the funeral arrangements along with his relatives.
Last March, artist Thuong Tin moved his belongings from Ho Chi Minh City back to Ninh Thuan after a long period without singing shows. Afterward, he announced his separation from Kim Chi – his partner, who was 32 years younger than him. Their 12-year-old daughter now lives with her mother.
In February 2021, the artist was hospitalized due to a stroke. Seeing his difficult situation, some colleagues called for donations to help him. In early 2022, after recovering, he shifted his focus to singing at some small events and concerts. To make a living in Ho Chi Minh City, he used to deliver braised offal to a restaurant owner on his motorbike, stating that he didn't rely solely on donations from benefactors. However, due to his declining health, after a period of manual labor, he returned to his hometown and was cared for by his relatives.
In 2023, the artist suffered multiple injuries in an accident, including osteoarthritis of the right knee, a fractured right patella, rendering him unable to walk and requiring him to use a wheelchair. From then until his death, the artist lived in his hometown with the support of his family.
People's Artist Kim Cương, who had been close to Thương Tín since the beginning of his career, was heartbroken to hear the news. The last time she saw him was in early 2024, at the "Artists' Reunion" – a program Kim Cương organizes every Tet (Lunar New Year) for actors in difficult circumstances. At that time, despite his weak health after a stroke and Covid-19, Thương Tín still smiled optimistically, saying he was luckier than many others because he could still manage his personal life independently and sing to earn money to support his daughter.
"I will forever cherish the memories I shared while performing in the play 'The Lady of the Camellias'," said artist Kim Cương.
Actor Thuong Tin graduated from the Saigon National School of Music and Drama, then joined the Cuu Long Giang Drama Troupe and later the Kim Cuong Troupe. At the Kim Cuong Troupe, Thuong Tin acted alongside the "legendary actress" Kim Cuong and became famous through many performances that made a strong impression on audiences, such as "The Rose Pinned to the Dress," "The Abyss of Height," "Legend of the Mother," and "Tanhia."
