Specifically, at 10:10 a.m. on May 20, 2025, at the Luon Cave tourist pick-up point in Ha Long Bay, the Ha Long Bay Management Board discovered that the tourist ship Thinh An 88, QN-8618 had allowed tourists on the ship to carry and use single-use plastic products that are difficult to decompose when visiting Ha Long Bay. The above behavior violated the regulations under the contract on anchoring and operating at ports, wharves, and waters in Ha Long Bay (including Bai Tu Long Bay) signed between the Ha Long Bay Management Board and Business Household Bui Van Thuy (owner of the tourist ship Thinh An 88, QN-8618).
Therefore, the Ha Long Bay Management Board has temporarily suspended the implementation of the contract on anchoring and operating at ports, wharves, and waters in Ha Long Bay (including Bai Tu Long Bay) for the tourist ships Thinh An 88, QN-8618 for a period of 7 days (from May 24 to May 30, 2025).
Ha Long Bay has been recognized as a World Natural Heritage three times. To achieve this prestigious title, since September 1, 2019, the Ha Long Bay Management Board has implemented a program to reduce plastic waste in the Ha Long Bay area with the content "Do not use disposable plastic products in service and tourism activities on Ha Long Bay". Accordingly, organizations and individuals operating tourism and service activities on the bay must commit to not using or buying and selling disposable plastic products (cups, straws, boxes, bowls, plates, plastic bags, etc.); at the same time, replace them with environmentally friendly products when participating in tourism and service activities in the Ha Long Bay World Natural Heritage area; refuse to transport customers who deliberately do not comply with this regulation.
