On April 12th, the Lam Dong Provincial Police announced that the Criminal Investigation Department of the Lam Dong Provincial Police had issued a decision to temporarily detain three individuals: Bui Van Huan and Nguyen Van Tuyen, both residing in Da Sar commune, Lac Duong district, and Bui Van Nam, residing in Ward 9, Da Lat city, for the crime of illegal logging.
According to the police investigation, on April 10th, Bui Van Nam was driving a truck with license plate 49C-233.71, illegally transporting 64 logs of wood weighing 3.5 cubic meters on National Highway 27C in the direction of Khanh Hoa - Lam Dong. He was apprehended by the Lam Dong Provincial Police and other relevant agencies when he reached Da Sar commune, Lac Duong district.
Working with the police, driver Bui Van Nam confessed that he, along with Huan and Tuyen, had used chainsaws to illegally cut down pine trees in the forest area of Da Chais commune, Lac Duong district. After felling the pines, the group cut them into sections, loaded them onto a truck, and transported them to Da Lat city, where they were arrested by the police.
Authorities are examining the crime scene.
Initially, authorities noted that Nam and his accomplices illegally felled 31 three-needle pine trees with a total volume of approximately 11.5 cubic meters. All the felled pines were located in a protected forest area managed by the Da Nhim Headwaters Protected Forest Management Board.
Currently, the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Lam Dong Provincial Police is continuing to expand the investigation to strictly handle the case according to the law.
