Authorities seized 14 kg of gold bars and gold jewelry...
On the afternoon of July 30th, the An Giang Provincial Police announced that, following an expanded investigation, the Provincial Police Investigation Agency had issued an emergency detention order for five individuals involved in the transportation of 19 kg of metal, suspected to be gold, in An Phu District.
Simultaneously, emergency search warrants were executed at the residences and workplaces of those involved. As a result, over 14 kg of gold bars, gold jewelry, and numerous other items, documents, and assets were seized.
Those detained were part of a group involved in smuggling and illegally transporting gold across the border, a operation that had been secretly monitored and dismantled by the An Giang Provincial Police.

The An Giang Provincial Police further stated that, through intelligence gathering, the police force discovered that a system of gold shops in Chau Doc City and An Phu District showed suspicious signs of illegally transporting gold across the Vietnam-Cambodia border. Therefore, the An Giang Provincial Police Directorate instructed the Economic Police force to closely coordinate with other professional units of the Provincial Police to verify and clarify the matter.
After a period of hiding in Cambodia, suspect Nguyen Tan Phong surrendered to the Long Binh International Border Gate Border Guard Station. Phong has been handed over to the An Giang Provincial Police for processing.

After a period of surveillance, on July 25th, Colonel Lam Phuoc Nguyen (Director of An Giang Provincial Police) and Colonel Bui Tan An (Deputy Director, Head of the Criminal Investigation Agency of An Giang Provincial Police) directly commanded the professional forces to divide into two teams, one by land and one by river, to organize an ambush.
At approximately 7 PM on July 25th, on the Binh Di River, in the area of Long Binh Town (An Phu District), a waterway task force spotted Nguyen Tan Phong (45 years old, residing in Long Binh Town) operating a motorboat transporting goods from Cambodia to Vietnam. They approached and attempted to arrest Phong. However, taking advantage of the darkness, Phong jumped into the river and escaped back to Cambodia.
19 kg of metal, suspected to be gold, was carefully packaged for illegal transport from Cambodia to Vietnam.
At the same time, the road task force apprehended and brought Ho Van Son (60 years old) and Nguyen Hoai Tam (22 years old, both residing in An Phu District) to the police station for questioning.
Here, Son and Tam confessed and admitted to participating in a ring that illegally transported gold bars and gold jewelry across the Vietnam-Cambodia border to be sold in gold shops in Chau Doc City. Phong, realizing he could not escape, also turned himself in later.
Authorities have not yet released information about the identities of the other two suspects.
The metal bars, suspected to be gold, are evidence in the case.
The case involving the transportation of 19 kg of metal suspected to be gold is being urgently investigated and handled by the An Giang Provincial Police in accordance with the law.
