The Department of Reproductive Health collaborated with local health centers to organize health check-ups for women aged 21-70 in the communes and wards of Co Do, Dong Hiep, Thanh Tien, Thanh An, and Thuan Hung. Each check-up point served 130-230 people and included gynecological examinations, VIA tests, Pap smears, cervical cancer screening using CerviCARE AI, general ultrasound, and breast ultrasound.

Dr. Tran Thi Thu Hong, Head of the Reproductive Health Department at the Can Tho CDC, stated: “For cases of gynecological diseases, free medication is provided. Those undergoing cervical cancer screening who show abnormalities are scheduled to visit the Can Tho CDC for examination via colposcopy and HPV typing. Mild cases are treated with cryotherapy and PAPILOCARE gel to eliminate HPV. These methods are simple and inexpensive. Early detection and treatment not only prevent severe complications requiring hysterectomy and oophorectomy but also protect women's reproductive function.”

Cervical cancer, if not detected early, is difficult and expensive to treat; not to mention that in its later stages, the disease can be life-threatening. Because of the significant benefits of early detection, for many years, doctors from the Reproductive Health Department of the Can Tho CDC have persistently visited communes and wards, especially remote ones, to conduct examinations and screenings. During these trips, the Reproductive Health Department combines hands-on training and guidance for local health facilities on cervical cancer screening using available equipment, particularly the CerviCARE AI screening device. This device is compact, easy to operate, and offers superior advantages, assisting doctors in early identification of precancerous lesions with high accuracy. Specifically, results are available in 5 seconds, with a sensitivity of 98%, providing results directly on the device (no internet required), and screening is non-invasive, painless, and causes no discomfort. Images are analyzed based on a large database of 7 million results.

Currently, 12 health stations (Tan Loc, Co Do, Thanh Tien, Thuan Hung, Trung Nhut, Trung Hung, Xa Phien, Vinh Thuan Dong, An Thanh, Dai Ngai, Ho Dac Kien, Vinh Hai), 3 regional health centers (Cai Rang, Binh Thuy, Thoi Lai) and the Reproductive Health Department, CDC Can Tho, are equipped with this device.

Cervical cancer screening activities are implemented from multiple sources: in Co Do and Dong Hiep communes, from the framework of the United Nations' "Together for an Inclusive Future" program for people with disabilities through the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). In the remaining communes and wards, the Can Tho CDC allocates funds from approved local budgets to facilitate access to high-quality reproductive health care services for women in remote areas and those in difficult circumstances.

Dr. Tran Thi Thu Hong stated: “During the recent examinations, we detected 7 abnormal cases, including 2 very young patients (22 and 27 years old). Most of these abnormal cases showed no signs of illness upon reviewing their medical history. Fortunately, the screenings were conducted at an early stage, so treatment was not complicated or expensive.”

According to Dr. Tran Thi Thu Hong, Specialist in Reproductive Health, CDC Can Tho, free health check-ups for women aged 21-70 will continue to be organized in other localities throughout the city. Priority will be given to remote areas and ethnic minority communities so that women can access quality reproductive health care services close to home.
