A cyber attack brought down the website of Poland's ruling Civic Forum party on May 16, the Polish Prime Minister's office said, ahead of this weekend's presidential election.
On the X platform, the Polish Prime Minister's Chief of Staff, Mr. Jan Grabiec, stated that the party's platforma.org website was temporarily interrupted after suffering a distributed denial of service (DDoS) cyber attack at 9:00 a.m. on May 16 (local time).
The attack also affected the operations of a website soliciting donations for the presidential election campaign.
According to Mr. Grabiec, the Prime Minister's Office is coordinating with the Polish National Institute for Cyber Security (NASK) to restore the operation of these websites.
A DDoS attack is a method of using a large number of infected devices to overload a target server or website with a large amount of traffic.
Previously, on May 15, NASK warned about attempts to interfere in Poland's presidential election campaign through false messages spread on cyberspace.
Last month, Poland's Ministry of Digital Affairs said cyber attacks from abroad on Poland were on the rise.
Also in April, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said KO's computer systems had been the target of a cyberattack that he described as "foreign interference."
The first round of Poland's presidential election is scheduled to take place on May 18, with Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski - a senior member of the ruling Civic Forum party, competing with historian Karol Nawrocki, who runs the Polish Institute of National Remembrance, and far-right candidate Slawomir Mentzen./.
