Nam Cha's real name is Ta Quang Thinh, born in 1992 in Cai Lay, Tien Giang . He was independent from a young age, leaving his hometown to go to Ho Chi Minh City to study at a boarding school at the age of 12. He loved acting and singing from an early age, but because he had no one to guide him, Nam Cha's career journey was quite difficult.

After many years of pursuing art, Nam Cha attracted attention when he won the championship of Laughter Across Vietnam 2023. Sharing with Dan Tri reporters after the final night, the actor said that although many days have passed, his emotions are still the same as when he stood on stage and raised the trophy.

"In the "Laughing Across Vietnam" contest, I invested about 100 million VND"

After many years of artistic activities, what is special about Nam Cha's feelings when he was named with the highest title of "Laughing Across Vietnam 2023"?

- At that time, my whole body was numb, I could only stand there and laugh, and I still feel elated. In previous seasons of Laughter Across Vietnam , many people encouraged me to compete, but I knew I was not capable enough. It was only this year that I "decided to fight" (laughs).

What does "enough" mean here?

- To actually participate in a competition, you need to have enough money and connections to support the script, acting, content development, etc. The expenses I spent during the competition were quite a lot, about 100 million VND. Sometimes after finishing a performance, I only had a few hundred thousand VND in my account. But maybe the Creator was so grateful that right after that, I had many shows to fill the gap. Luckily, after the competition, I didn't have any debt.

If you are passionate about art, why didn't you choose to "commit" from the beginning?

- I took the entrance exam to the University of Theatre and Cinema but failed because I knew nothing about acting and was… too ugly. At that time, I thought that I would study another major and do many jobs, taking a detour to enter the art path would be fine. I prayed to the profession's ancestors to let me "work from the bottom up" because I wanted to experience all the jobs revolving around the two words art.

I approached the work of the film crew, not hesitating to do anything, from holding umbrellas, serving water, parking, doing makeup, costumes... with a salary of nearly 300,000 VND/day. In general, I did whatever people asked me to do, I often jokingly said that I was the "coolie" of the film crew (laughs).

So when did you get your "acting part"?

- When I was an assistant director of the movie Loto (2017), the director saw that I was active and cheerful, so he gave me a small role in it. After that movie, I "boldly" prayed to the profession's ancestors to let me do "the right job" and my acting career opened up from there. I acted in movies, plays, then I got involved with the Loto stage when I had the opportunity to work with a few familiar faces in the "Loto village" such as: Jessica, Su Su, Lo Lo...

Some people think that it's hard to have real friends in the entertainment industry, they just fight with each other, what do you think?

- It's normal for people to like and hate each other. I've also encountered cases where one person was given priority and another was not. It's a bit too much to say "avoid each other" but I've actually had conflicts with my colleagues. It's true that when we were young, we were a bit competitive. Later, all misunderstandings and acrimony were resolved, and our relationship was better than before.

"My parents became monks, so I can only call them teacher and teacher."

After winning the highest position at the "Laughing Across Vietnam 2023" contest, did Nam Cha hear rumors that he bought the prize?

- Some people joked, some asked me seriously about buying the award. But I assure everyone that I won the award by my own ability. I always walked on my own, without anyone's support. Luckily, I received a lot of love and help from friends and colleagues.

What do your parents think about your job?

- My father became a monk 10 years ago, my mother also became a monk 7 years ago. Now I can only call my parents teacher and aunt.

Even though I know my parents are vegetarians and have been practicing for a long time and understand these things, sometimes I feel sad and crave a warm family meal but can't have it.

However, if before I kept my joys and sorrows to myself, now I share more with my parents. I understand that even if my parents become monks, they are still my parents and still want to see me grow up and succeed.

You have always appeared as a woman, what will your image be like from now on?

- I am not transgender, but when I transform into a woman, I feel more beautiful, gorgeous and outstanding. However, I still want to have the opportunity to portray many characters, even an old man. Like in the episodes of Laughter Across Vietnam 2023 , I did not cross-dress in any episode.

From now on, at events, I will probably appear with my real appearance more often, because I'm afraid that if I wear flashy makeup forever, the audience will forget my real appearance (laughs).

Was your income during the time you sang bingo or worked in theater abundant?

- Working in the theater is mostly because of passion, the desire to nurture the profession, but the salary is not too high, only a few hundred thousand per performance. As for singing bingo, the income can be called good, it's just that I don't have the energy to do it because I have to use my voice all the time (laughs). There was a time when I sang until I lost my voice. But on the bingo stage, if I can't speak, I can sell tickets (laughs).

At your age, many people have achieved certain successes. Do you think you are... too slow?

- I also used to feel sad and hurt when I was ignored at events. But it is only at times like that that I realize that I need to constantly train myself to become better and more complete every day.

I also find myself slow but I am trying to be "slow and steady". Moreover, although my journey is a little different, I find happiness in my journey.

Thanks for sharing Nam Cha!
