Strengthening Vietnam-Russia cooperation on the sea

Russian Presidential Assistant, Chairman of the Russian Federation Maritime Council Nikolai Patrushev is visiting Vietnam from September 15 to 18.

On September 16th, at the Party Central Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received Mr. Nikolai Patrushev. During the meeting, General Secretary To Lam requested the Federal Maritime Council of Russia and Mr. Nikolai Patrushev personally to support and promote cooperation with Vietnam in maritime policy research, marine and ocean science research, development of maritime infrastructure, maritime transport routes, logistics systems, and human resource training; and to assist Vietnam in the sustainable and efficient management and exploitation of maritime space in accordance with the interests of each side, for peace , stability, and development in the region and the world.

Russian Presidential Assistant and Chairman of the Federal Maritime Council Nikolai Patrushev affirmed that Russia values ​​the development of a comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam as one of Russia's top important partners in the Asia- Pacific region.

Both sides highly appreciated the results of bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Tropical Center and agreed on the need to further improve the Center's operational efficiency, while expanding and elevating bilateral cooperation in scientific research, development and application of new technologies, materials, and other products and technologies.

General Secretary To Lam affirmed his support for Russia enhancing its role and voice in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region, and requested that Russia support Vietnam's and ASEAN's stance and views on the East Sea based on adherence to international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

On this occasion, Mr. Nikolai Patrushev respectfully presented General Secretary To Lam with the "For Cooperation in the Maritime Field" Medal to recognize the General Secretary's significant contributions to the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in general and his guiding role in bilateral cooperation in the maritime field.

President Luong Cuong receives Mr. Nikolai Patrushev

On the afternoon of September 16, at the Presidential Palace, President Luong Cuong received the Assistant to the President of Russia and Chairman of the Federal Maritime Council of Russia, Nikolai Patrushev.

During the meeting, President Luong Cuong acknowledged the positive developments in the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia in recent times. President Luong Cuong requested the Russian Maritime Council's support in promoting cooperation and assisting Vietnam in maritime areas, as well as in traditional and key sectors such as defense and security, energy and oil and gas, economy and trade, education and training, and transportation, in accordance with the interests of each side, for the sake of peace, stability, and common development in the region and the world.

The President emphasized the importance of ensuring peace and maritime safety in the South China Sea; and requested Russia to continue to voice its support for resolving disputes in the South China Sea through peaceful means, based on international law, including UNCLOS 1982.
