Representatives of UNESCO and IMEXCO signed a cooperation agreement to launch a project to promote heritage conservation and sustainable practices in Vietnam. |
This event is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the UNESCO representative office in Vietnam. Accordingly, IMEXCO will allocate a portion of its business profits to fund capacity building activities, heritage protection, and sustainable production and consumption practices for local production communities from Vietnam's diverse cultural and natural heritages. As a multi-industry and multi-channel distribution unit, IMEXCO has many customers operating in the food service sector, high-end hotels and resorts - the output value chain of many products and services based on the unique advantages of Vietnam's cultural and natural resources. IMEXCO aims to accelerate the transition to sustainable production and consumption through consulting activities, capacity building in the transmission of cultural heritage values, as well as the application of sustainable practices in production and market access of Vietnamese enterprises, while promoting sustainable production and consumption activities, raising general awareness of the value of cultural and environmentally sustainable goods and services. The cooperation program between UNESCO and IMEXCO is expected to have a first phase lasting 5 years (2025-2029) with a budget equivalent to 500 thousand USD. The goal of the cooperation program is to enhance local benefits through establishing partnerships between the private sector and local communities. Activities include organizing dialogue forums to support the improvement of the quality of local products associated with cultural heritage, changing awareness and actions in sustainable production and consumption, and documenting sustainable practices to demonstrate the contribution of heritage to development. Direct beneficiaries include local communities, especially small businesses and workers living in UNESCO-recognized cultural heritage sites. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Tran Manh Hao, Chairman of IMEXCO, said that these efforts will contribute significantly to building sustainable brands for Vietnam, enhancing the reputation and promoting the value and advantages of Vietnam's diverse cultural and natural heritage in terms of socio-economic development and bringing practical benefits to local communities. Also within the framework of the signing ceremony, delegates and a large number of students from universities in Hanoi attended a dialogue with young people on the topic of building the future for sustainable development.
