(CPV) – From October 22 to 25, 2024, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Tanzania and East African countries presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Burundi Evariste Ndayishimiye and had a working trip to Burundi.
According to the Vietnamese Embassy in Tanzania, on October 22, Vietnamese Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen presented his credentials to President of the Republic of Burundi Evariste Ndayishimiye. At the ceremony, Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen conveyed the greetings and best wishes of General Secretary and President To Lam to President Evariste Ndayishimiye and the people of Burundi and invited the President to visit Vietnam soon on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1975-2025).

Congratulating Burundi on its recent socio -economic achievements, Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen affirmed that Vietnam is ready to cooperate and share experiences in areas where Vietnam has strengths, provide scholarships for students; and propose that the Burundian Government appoint an Honorary Consul of Burundi in Vietnam to strengthen connections between the people and businesses of the two countries.
Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen thanked President Evariste Ndayishimiye and the Government of Burundi for creating a stable and favorable business environment for Vietnamese enterprises; hoped that the Government of Burundi would continue to pay attention and support the upcoming projects of Lumitel and Viettel - Burundi. The Ambassador affirmed that the traditional friendship and good cooperation between the two countries still has a lot of potential and committed that during his term of office, he would make every effort, actively and proactively coordinate closely with domestic agencies of Vietnam and relevant parties of Burundi to promote stronger and more practical political - foreign - economic relations.
President Evariste Ndayishimiye welcomed and congratulated Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen on his assignment in Burundi; emphasizing that Burundi and Vietnam have many similarities in culture and ideology. The President expressed his wish to visit Vietnam soon; to learn from Vietnam's experience in developing the socialist economy. The President highly appreciated the activities of Lumitel Company - the number 1 network operator in Burundi, and affirmed to create all favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to operate in Burundi.

Previously, on October 21, 2024, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Burundi, Vietnamese Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen presented a copy of his credentials to Foreign Minister Albert Shingiro. Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen conveyed the greetings of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burundi. The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam always wishes to strengthen friendly cooperation with Burundi; suggested that the two countries continue to support each other at multilateral forums. Foreign Minister Albert Shingiro congratulated Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen on taking up his position in Burundi; emphasized the good traditional friendship between the two countries over the past 50 years; affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs always supports the development of relations with Vietnam, agreed that the two sides need to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, promote trade relations, and promote cooperation at multilateral forums.
During his working term in Burundi from October 22 to 25, 2024, Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary General of the National Council for the Defense of Democracy - Forces for the Defense of Democracy (CNDD-FDD), Mr. Reverien Ndikuriyo. At the meeting, the two sides affirmed the good relationship between the two Parties; agreed to promote and increase high-level visits; implement the contents discussed during the visit to Vietnam last July; and soon sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation as a basis for implementing activities in the coming time. The Secretary General emphasized that Burundi and Vietnam are two countries with similar histories and cultures, having experienced war. Burundi wishes to cooperate with Vietnam in all fields; learn from Vietnam's experiences to develop the country.
During his working trip to Burundi, Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen also had a working session with Burundian Minister of Information and Communications Léocardie Ndacayisaba; Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock Prosper Dodiko; Honorary Consul of Vietnam Juvenal Sakubu.

Also during the working trip, the Ambassador had a working session with Viettel Burundi Group (Lumitel). General Director of Lumitel Company, Mr. Phan Truong Son said that after 11 years of doing business in the market, Lumitel is currently the telecommunications network holding the number 1 market share in Burundi and is one of the enterprises contributing the largest budget to the Government of Burundi; creating jobs and stable income for more than 60,000 employees and 100,000 indirect jobs through channels; participating in many social and charitable activities.
Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen acknowledged and highly appreciated the contributions and achievements of Lumitel staff; affirmed her readiness to accompany Lumitel in implementing activities in the coming time.
During the working trip, Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen and Lumitel staff organized a charity event to present scholarships, school supplies and essential necessities to orphans at Nezerwa Center, Burumbuja; and witnessed the ceremony of presenting Lumitel Company’s corrugated iron roofs to 30 households severely affected by floods in Burumata Village, Gihanga Commune./.
