70% of the contract value has been completed.
In early September 2024, a reporter from Giao Thong Newspaper visited the construction site of the bridge over the Day River connecting Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh provinces and observed that many machines and equipment were concentrated on the site, and hundreds of officials and technical workers were busily working.
Construction is underway to cantilever the main piers in the middle of the river.
Speaking with a reporter from Giao Thong Newspaper, Mr. Bui Duc Nguyen, in charge of construction on the Nam Dinh embankment and representing the contractor, Dat Phuong Group Joint Stock Company, said that according to the contract, the contractor must complete the project by December 2024 to hand it over to the investor.
Regarding land clearance, it has been basically completed (currently only the relocation of the 0.4KV power line on the Ninh Binh side remains); the People's Committees of Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh provinces have issued decisions allocating land for the project.
Determined to complete the project on schedule, the contractor is mobilizing nearly 300 staff, technicians, and workers, along with numerous modern equipment and machinery, working in day and night shifts.

According to Mr. Nguyen, on the site that has been handed over, the contractor has basically completed the main tasks, achieving 70% of the contract value.
For the bridge section, 100% of the bored piles and 100% of the abutments and piers have been completed. Six out of eight Super T girder spans on the Ninh Binh side have been launched and installed; and ten out of fifteen Super T girder spans on the Nam Dinh side have been installed.
Regarding the road sections at both ends of the bridge, on the Ninh Binh side, the main route has completed the excavation of organic soil and treatment of weak foundations; the section for installing drainage wicks has been completed with K95 sand filling and surcharge loading; K95 sand and granular materials are currently being filled behind the abutments of the cement-soil pile section at the bridge's end. Construction of the roadbed for the branch route, drainage items, and protective and auxiliary structures is underway.
Construction workers are installing the sixth layer of railings on the bridge deck.
In Nam Dinh province, the excavation of organic soil and treatment of weak foundations have been completed. The wick drain installation section has been completed with K95 sand filling and surcharge loading; K95 sand and granular materials are currently being filled behind the abutments of the cement-soil pile section at the bridge's approach. Construction of drainage and protective/auxiliary structures is underway.
"We expect to complete the bridge span over the Bai Dinh - Kim Son road in October 2024. The main bridge will be completed in November 2024, and all project components will be finished and handed over to the investor on schedule in December 2024," Mr. Nguyen said.
Strengthening linkages creates momentum for development.
The project to build a bridge over the Day River connecting Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh provinces is part of the Ninh Binh - Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong expressway, with a total investment of 1,450 billion VND. The bridge has a total length of 2km, passing through Khanh Cuong and Khanh Trung communes in Yen Khanh district, Ninh Binh province, and Nghia Chau, Nghia Trung, and Nghia Thai communes in Nghia Hung district, Nam Dinh province.
Construction workers are building the bridge.
The project, with a scale of 4 lanes and a design speed of 100 km/h, includes the following components: a river bridge approximately 1.36 km long with a bridge cross-section width of 19.5 m; an access road approximately 0.64 km long and 19 m wide; and branches (section from Km17+300 to Km17+495.5) on the expressway and 2 interchange branches located in Ninh Binh province; and the section from Km18+856 to Km19+300/expressway mileage and 2 interchange branches located in Nam Dinh province.
The project involves crossing the Day River at Km18+116/mileage of the Ninh Binh - Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong expressway. On the Ninh Binh side, the bridge connects to the Bai Dinh - Kim Son road via two branches with a roadbed width of 12m; on the Nam Dinh side, the project includes a grade-separated interchange with National Highway 37B and a grade-separated interchange connecting to Provincial Road 490 via two branch roads with a roadbed width of 8m.
To date, 100% of the bridge abutments and piers have been completed.
Mr. Dinh Van Phuong, Director of the Investment and Construction Project Management Board of Nam Dinh province (the project's investor), stated that the project aims to connect important transportation routes between Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh provinces, gradually completing the Ninh Binh - Hai Phong expressway, and strengthening regional and inter-regional connectivity in the Red River Delta.
At the same time, the project helps to alleviate the burden on the existing transportation system, shorten distances and travel times for commuters, and create momentum for socio-economic development.
