Multiple construction heads at the same time
At the construction site of Van Bridge connecting National Highway 37 in Le Dai Hanh Ward (formerly Chi Linh City) with the approach road to Trieu Bridge through Bac An Phu and Nam An Phu Communes (formerly Kinh Mon Town), the working atmosphere is urgent. The entire large construction site is bustling with the sounds of pile drilling machines, cranes, pile drivers, concrete mixers, etc.
The Van Bridge project is part of the Van Bridge and Road Construction Investment Project connecting National Highway 37 with the Trieu Bridge approach road, with a length of about 13.07 km (main route 9.7 km and 2 branch routes 3.37 km). Of which, the Van Bridge is nearly 900 m long and 12 m wide. The total investment is 1,296 billion VND. The joint venture of Construction Investment Joint Stock Company No. 18 - Phuong Hoang Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company - Viet A Electrical Construction and Industrial Development Consulting Joint Stock Company is the contractor for the project.
Construction started in January 2025. Up to now, the Van bridge project has completed 125/131 bored piles and 8/18 piers and piers. Regarding the superstructure, the SuperT girder casting work has also been deployed, with 10/70 girder slabs completed. The contractor is focusing on speeding up the construction of SuperT girder casting items, continuing to deploy the remaining piers and piers... The project is expected to be completed in September 2026.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Chung, Commander of Van Bridge Construction, said that the contractor organized 6 construction teams at the same time, working 3 shifts continuously. Of which, 2 teams built the abutments on the shore, 2 teams built the main span, and 2 teams built the approach span beams. To ensure the set progress, the 6 teams worked urgently, overcoming all difficulties so that the project could be completed as committed to the investor.
Not far away, the Tan An bridge project connecting Chu Van An ward (formerly Chi Linh city) and Hop Tien commune (formerly Nam Sach district) under the Tan An bridge construction investment project and the access road connecting National Highway 18 is also being constructed very urgently. The project has a total length of 3.485 km, of which the main bridge is more than 572 m long, 12 m wide, with reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structure. The project has a total investment of 600 billion VND. The construction contractor is the Joint Venture of Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company No. 18 - Viet Hoa Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company - Ninh Binh Construction and Trading Company Limited - Viet A Electrical Construction and Industrial Development Consulting Joint Stock Company.
By early August, the project had completed about 40% of its construction volume. The construction unit had completed all bored piles; and was currently constructing the bases and beams of 10 piers and abutments. 25/45 Super T girders had been cast, of which 10 slabs had been installed.
Overcoming difficulties to ensure progress
Both projects are under construction, closely following schedule, but are also being affected by the shortage of construction materials.
Recently, construction sand prices on the market have increased 2-3 times compared to the estimated price, greatly affecting concrete pouring and investment costs. Not only sand, the supply of stone and construction steel is also unstable, affecting the supply to construction sites. The complex geological conditions under the riverbed and the impact of the recent storm No. 3 (WIPHA) have caused many obstacles in the construction process under the riverbed.
To overcome the difficulties, contractors are proactively dividing shifts, increasing shifts, working at night, and closely coordinating with suppliers to ensure materials are transported to the construction site in a timely manner. The Tay Hai Phong Construction Investment Project Management Board regularly sends technical staff to directly monitor the site, closely monitoring the quality and progress of each item.
According to Mr. Duong Quoc Khanh, Commander of Tan An Bridge construction site, the entire construction site is currently mobilizing maximum human resources and machinery to speed up progress. At the construction site, the unit organizes about 7 construction teams at the same time, with about 60 - 70 workers and engineers. In response to the high progress requirements, the technical team must divide shifts reasonably, many items are carried out overnight. On the hottest days, workers work in the early morning and at night. Last July, due to the impact of storms and rain, the river water level rose, and construction items on the riverbed were temporarily suspended for nearly 10 days to ensure safety. However, immediately after that, the construction site quickly reorganized the work pace to speed up again.
Van Bridge and Tan An Bridge not only connect the two banks of Kinh Thay River but also carry the mission of connecting the development space of the localities in the West of Hai Phong. When completed, the two projects will help reduce traffic pressure on existing routes, shorten travel time, create favorable conditions for transporting goods, promote investment attraction, and develop the economy and society.
