Creating sustainable livelihoods to reduce poverty for people

Recently, Nam Ka commune has implemented many programs to support trees, seeds, preferential loans... to create models and sustainable poverty reduction livelihoods for people, especially ethnic minorities.

Living in Krai village for more than 20 years, despite being very hard-working, Ms. Lo Thi Kim Nguyet's family (born in 1968, Thai ethnic group) still faces many difficulties due to little land for production, old orchards, and lack of capital to invest in production.

In 2021, Ms. Nguyet's family borrowed 30 million VND from the loan source for near-poor households to develop the family economy .

From this capital and the accumulated money, her family focused on developing the family economy by raising pigs and chickens, buying fertilizer and seeds to replant the coffee garden and boldly investing in a model of growing mulberry and raising silkworms.

Thanks to her diligence and knowledge of applying science and technology to farming and raising livestock, her family's economy has grown more and more, and her family escaped poverty in 2023. Currently, with 2 sao of land for growing mulberry and raising silkworms, 7 sao of coffee, each year brings in an income for Ms. Nguyet's family of more than 100 million VND after deducting all expenses.

Realizing the effectiveness of the model, Ms. Nguyet shared her experience and knowledge with households in the village and commune to support economic development, contributing to hunger eradication and poverty reduction in the locality.

Nam Ka commune leaders visited a silkworm farming model of local people.

Similarly, in 2021, Mr. Y Hue Kjie's family (in Krai village) also boldly borrowed 50 million VND from policy credit capital to buy more seedlings, materials, fertilizers, and drill wells to take care of about 1 hectare of durian for the family.

Thanks to good care, the garden brings high economic efficiency when each year it harvests about 2 tons of fruit, bringing in hundreds of millions of dong in income, helping his family's economy to become increasingly stable. The effective durian growing model of Mr. Y Hue's family has also become a "trusted address" when people in the village and commune regularly come to visit, exchange and learn production experiences.

Thanks to his hard work, production and knowing how to use capital to bring high value and efficiency, Mr. Y Hue Kjie is honored to be one of 13 typical advanced individuals in the patriotic emulation movements of Nam Ka commune in the period of 2020-2025.

Not only the family of Mrs. Nguyet and Mr. Y Hue, in recent times, thousands of households in the commune have been supported with preferential loans to develop production in the agricultural sector and diversify livelihoods, and have been given hundreds of animal breeds and thousands of plants of all kinds to develop their family economy.

Specifically, in August 2024, the locality supported people with nearly 1,300 Dona durian trees with a cost of 120 million VND and 42 breeding cows with a cost of nearly 910 million VND; in December 2024, it continued to support 31 breeding cows with a cost of 810 million VND...

From preferential loans, Ms. Lo Thi Kim Nguyet invested in replanting her coffee garden.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Luan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Ka commune, said that to help people develop the economy, the local Party Committee and government have synchronously implemented poverty reduction programs and projects with the biggest goal of helping people develop the economy and improve their material and spiritual life.

In fact, with the support of the State and local authorities, many households in the commune have been "given fishing rods" to create livelihoods, have the conditions to invest in production development, gradually increase income and stabilize their lives.

This is a suitable direction to help people have jobs, increase income, become rich legitimately, contributing significantly to the goal of sustainable poverty reduction and socio-economic development in the locality...
