Coastal villages develop tourism.

Initiated in 2023, the "Community Tourism Development" project in Hoa Hiep ward comprises 23 members across 5 service groups: homestay, cooking, agriculture, fisheries, and folk singing (Bai Choi). Since then, numerous homestays, restaurants, and seaside cafes have been established, meeting the experiential needs of tourists. Thanks to this, many households in Lo Village (Phu Tho 1, Phu Tho 2, and Phu Tho 3 neighborhoods) have boldly invested in and developed tourism, focusing on providing convenient services while simultaneously promoting, preserving, and conserving local cultural values.

Since then, many homestays, restaurants, and cafes along the coast have sprung up, meeting the experiential needs of tourists. Thanks to this, many households in Lo Village (Phu Tho 1, Phu Tho 2, and Phu Tho 3 neighborhoods) have boldly invested in and developed tourism , focusing on providing convenient services while simultaneously promoting, preserving, and conserving local cultural values.

Unlocking potential

We arrived at Sun Village Homestay in Phu Tho 2 neighborhood just as the sun was about to reach its zenith. Sun Village is like a "living museum" of Vietnamese fishing villages – where every stone, every wall, every material tells a story of memory and tradition. Here, tradition doesn't lie dormant in the past, but continues to be recreated, spread, and nurture pride in the homeland within contemporary life. The houses have red tiled roofs, unplastered brick walls, and wooden doors and interiors.

Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh Lan, a cheerful and friendly manager of Sun Village Homestay in Phu Tho 2 neighborhood, said: "Sun Village has been operating since December 2025, and we always have many guests staying and relaxing here. Rooms are fully booked during holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), and weekends, with half of them being foreign tourists. Guests can experience a buffet right on the beach, fly kites, have bonfires at night, immerse themselves in pristine nature, and enjoy fresh seafood... The peaceful atmosphere and ambiance here attract tourists to return a second and third time for sightseeing and relaxation."

Mr. Tran Thanh Khue, a tourist from Hanoi, said: “It’s been a long time since I’ve felt this peaceful. There are many traditional craft villages here that still preserve their traditions, and the locals welcome visitors very warmly and openly, not like tourists but like locals.”

Viewed from above, Lo Village resembles a traditional ink painting.

Here, visitors can tour and experience traditional bakeries, fishing net weaving, and enjoy singing sessions where local folk songs and traditional theater performances can be held. Statistics show that there are currently 72 accommodation establishments concentrated in Phu Tho 1, Phu Tho 2, and Phu Tho 3 neighborhoods. This demonstrates the attractiveness of Hoa Hiep beach tourism and its potential for community-based tourism development in the future.

To effectively implement the approved "Community Tourism Development" project aimed at preserving the cultural identity of the coastal village, the Hoa Hiep Ward People's Committee is focusing on granting construction permits to guide tourism businesses and fishermen living in Phu Tho 1, Phu Tho 2, and Phu Tho 3 areas in preserving the distinctive architecture of Lo Village. "In addition, we will coordinate with experts on traditional festivals such as the Fishing Festival and Ba Trao singing to guide and recreate them for tourists to visit and enjoy. At the same time, we will prepare a dossier to request the Provincial People's Committee to recognize the Ancestral Temples as provincial-level relics, complete the infrastructure system, coordinate with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and connect with travel businesses to include Lo Village as one of the destinations in traditional tourism itineraries," added Mr. Huynh Nguyen Ngoc Giang, Chairman of the Hoa Hiep Ward People's Committee.

Towards the best tourist village

Visiting the coastal villages of Hoa Hiep today, we can easily sense that the people are not only venturing out to sea to make a living, but are also gradually developing community tourism, preserving and spreading traditional cultural values through traditional crafts, festivals, and distinctive ways of life.

Spacious and airy atmosphere at the homestays along the coast of Lo Village.

Mr. Pham Y Thien, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Hoa Hiep Ward, said: “The ward has chosen Phu Tho 2 neighborhood – an area with many distinctive values in terms of landscape, architecture, and fishing village culture – to build a community tourism model, and at the same time register to participate in the “Best Tourism Village” award in 2026 of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism). The model is oriented towards development based on preserving and promoting traditional values, notably the characteristic red tiled roof houses, the seaside village space, and cultural activities and seafood cuisine…”.

In the coming period, the Hoa Hiep Ward People's Committee will continue to refine the community tourism model, selecting Lo 2 Village as a focal point, playing the role of a "nucleus" to gradually expand it to the entire coastal area of the ward. This will form a network of community tourism with its own unique identity, contributing to diversifying tourism products, extending the length of stay, and increasing the spending of tourists when they come to vacation here.

To ensure that community-based tourism in Hoa Hiep ward develops in line with its potential and creates a unique brand, the local authorities will focus on accelerating the investment progress of coastal tourism projects in the coming period, contributing to improving marine tourism products and services. Particular attention will be paid to investing in synchronized transportation infrastructure connecting coastal villages. The promotion of community-based tourism to tourists from within and outside the province will continue. At the same time, the approved "Community-Based Tourism Development" project will be effectively utilized, contributing to building a friendly, civilized, and attractive image of Hoa Hiep as a tourist destination.
