Practice yoga to contribute to improving community health

Báo Quân đội Nhân dânBáo Quân đội Nhân dân05/04/2023

According to Mr. Vu Trong Loi, Honorary President of the Vietnam Yoga Federation: “This is considered an effective tourism stimulus model after the Covid-19 pandemic and is also a way for yoga to be known, cared for and practiced by many people, in order to improve the health of the whole population”. We had a discussion with Mr. Vu Trong Loi about this.

Reporter (PV): Sir, how is yoga beneficial to public health?

Mr. Vu Trong Loi: Yoga from ancient times mainly focused on having a healthy lifestyle combined with nutrition, exercise, eating and sleeping on the basis of human activities to suit the natural and social environment in a harmonious way, thereby perfecting the physical body. This is the purpose and meaning of organizing yoga activities to promote the good values of yoga to the community, helping each person have more choices to find a sport suitable for their living conditions.

Recently, the Vietnam Healthy Yoga Academy in collaboration with Sun World organized the Spring Yoga Festival to compete for the Healthy Yoga Star Cup. In addition to this program, members of the Vietnam Yoga Federation have also organized spring yoga festivals, winter yoga festivals...

These activities help people anywhere and in any situation to practice yoga. Recently, the Vietnam Yoga Federation and a number of organizations have organized yoga introduction programs via the internet to educate the community on health. These programs have had a good influence not only domestically but also with many foreigners participating.

PV: Through the organization of these yoga programs, how do you perceive tourism activities combined with yoga?

Mr. Vu Trong Loi: Sports tourism is developing strongly in the world, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic. Yoga tourism is one of the contents that the tourism industry as well as the sports industry are interested in. Yoga tourism is creating opportunities for tourists to participate in exercise, live and work healthily, while protecting nature and the environment, using natural resources reasonably, and eating and living in moderation and healthily. Yoga is breathing, and breathing requires a clean environment. Yoga tourism helps people escape from the office, to go to places where we use fresh natural conditions. Vietnam is a country with a relatively favorable climate, so the opportunity to develop this type of tourism is also very open.

In recent years, not only resorts have yoga, but also in caravans or on long-term cruise ships... there are people who go to participate and guide tourists to practice yoga. More and more tourists want to participate in yoga activities when traveling. Recently, we have coordinated with the General Department of Tourism to develop yoga tourism programs and have received response from many tourist establishments nationwide.

PV: It is known that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has included yoga in the list of physical activities requiring a training instructor. Is this an advantage that helps us popularize yoga more to the people, sir?

Mr. Vu Trong Loi: That's right, in addition to popularizing it to the community, we focus on developing sports yoga so that we can integrate with the world. Sending athletes to participate internationally has contributed to spreading the culture, image of the country and people of Vietnam to the world.

This is also an opportunity for us to exchange and learn from the experiences of countries that develop yoga. In addition, the Vietnam Yoga Federation has organized many yoga standardization activities such as organizing training courses, granting certificates according to standards for yoga instructors; organizing seminars and conferences with the participation of many leading scientists in the field of physical education, perfecting and disseminating teaching and reference materials... Thanks to that, in recent years, yoga has received more and more attention, people have more trust in the team of cadres and yoga instructors...

Another thing that many people are interested in is that yoga also has a specialized part, helping to restore function for people with health problems, helping them return to a normal state of activity to improve their quality of life. Practicing yoga is beneficial for health and this has been proven even more clearly during and after the Covid-19 outbreak. Up to now, many people who have recovered from Covid-19 when practicing yoga have also noticed an effective recovery of function in the body without having to use medical intervention therapies...

PV: Thank you very much!
