| Flower growers hope for another successful Lunar New Year flower season. |
Ensuring flowers bloom in time for Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year).
Taking advantage of the sunny days, Mr. Truong Quang Truong Hai, residing in La Y residential area, My Thuong ward, is busy tending to his flower garden covering nearly 4,000 square meters, with a variety of flowers. Many workers hired by Mr. Hai are busy fertilizing, watering, and pruning to ensure beautiful flower pots for his customers.
Mr. Hai shared: "This flower garden started planting in June, but the recent severe floods completely destroyed it, resulting in a total loss of nearly 300 million VND in investment. After the floods, my family made efforts to recover and replant in three adjacent gardens, totaling 2,000 pots of chrysanthemums, peonies, asters, marigolds, and raspberries… The cost of seedlings, fertilizers, supplies, and labor to revive this flower garden was nearly 400 million VND."
Pointing towards the flowerbeds with budding flowers, Mr. Hai explained that each pair of large tray chrysanthemum arrangements costs 3.5 - 4 million VND, a pair of rotating pedestals costs 1.5 - 2.5 million VND, a pair of potted plants costs 450 - 500 thousand VND, and pairs of small to medium-sized potted plants range from 150 - 350 thousand VND. He hoped that favorable weather and good flower growth would yield a bountiful harvest.
For this year's Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse), Mr. Le Thanh Nhan, also from La Y residential area, planted over 700 pots of various types of chrysanthemums. Like Mr. Hai, Mr. Nhan's flower garden was completely destroyed in the recent floods, and he has had to borrow capital to invest in restoration. Currently, his family is hiring additional workers to care for the plants, fertilize them, etc., so that the flowers bloom at the right time for Tet. According to Mr. Nhan, besides weather conditions, technical aspects play a crucial role in determining the success of the flower crop.
Multiple support options
Mr. Tran Manh Phuong, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of My Thuong Ward, said that after the floods at the end of 2025, the Ward People's Committee quickly supported the people in overcoming the damage and expanding the model of production linkages with product output, forming a specialized flower cultivation area with more than 110 households, each cultivating an average of 3-5 sao (approximately 0.3-0.3 hectares), creating significant additional income for the people. In addition, the local government also supported people in converting inefficient rice cultivation land to flower cultivation for higher income, mainly in the An Ha, Chiet Bi, Ngoc Anh, La Y, and Tay Tri Nhon residential areas… Besides loan support, people received support from various units regarding seeds, materials, and updated and disseminated new techniques to reduce costs, increase productivity and quality, thereby increasing the economic value of the flower farms.

According to our observations, the atmosphere in the flower gardens these days has become more urgent and bustling. At the flower farms in the residential areas of Tien Non, Vong Tri, Thanh Vinh, Mau Tai, etc., everyone has their own task, but all hope that the flowers will thrive, bloom beautifully, and meet customer demand during Tet.
According to Nguyen Van Trai, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Duong No Ward, the total area for flower production in the locality is over 40 hectares, with nearly 200 households involved in cultivation. The recent floods caused significant damage to flower growers. After recovery, the gardeners have invested more in labor, materials, fertilizers, and heating systems to ensure the flowers bloom in time for the Lunar New Year.
During the recent floods, flower growers throughout the city suffered heavy losses in infrastructure and production, with over 124,000 potted plants destroyed, estimated at nearly 8.7 billion VND. After the floods subsided, relevant authorities coordinated with local governments to urgently assist people in restoring their flower farms for the Lunar New Year. According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong, Head of the Crop Production and Plant Protection Sub-Department - Department of Agriculture and Environment, the unit actively coordinated with local authorities, organizations, and businesses to support flower growers with seeds and fertilizers; simultaneously, they organized collaborative activities, guiding members to exchange production and business experiences, share information on market prices, discuss effective production solutions, unify investment in production, provide support in terms of seeds and capital, and especially foster close production linkages to ensure a balance between supply and demand for the year-end market.
