Carrots are a staple crop in the winter season in the western part of Hai Phong. Carrots are mainly grown on the banks of the Thai Binh River in the communes of Tue Tinh and Thai Tan. At the beginning of the season, due to the impact of heavy rain and floods, the river water rose and flooded the banks, so carrot planting was interrupted. Carrots have high economic value, so when the water recedes, Hai Phong farmers are busy planting to ensure the crop schedule. Farmers introduced mechanization into carrot production, helping to speed up the season. For carrots to grow and develop well, before planting, farmers apply basal fertilizer. Farmers use seed sowing tools to ensure that the plants grow evenly, in straight rows, and are easy to care for. After planting, the carrot beds will be covered with straw for protection. Water to keep moist. It is expected that in about 15 days, Hai Phong farmers will finish planting winter carrots.
This winter crop, Hai Phong city plans to plant nearly 1,300 hectares of carrots, concentrated in Tue Tinh and Thai Tan communes with an output of 70,000 - 80,000 tons/year. More than 70% of the city's carrot output is exported to Japan, Korea, Thailand... the rest is consumed domestically.
