Carrots are a key agricultural product during the winter season in the western part of Hai Phong. They are primarily grown along the banks of the Thai Binh River in the communes of Tue Tinh and Thai Tan. At the beginning of the season, due to heavy rains and flooding, the river water rose, inundating the banks and disrupting carrot planting. Carrots are a high-value crop , so when the floodwaters recede, farmers in Hai Phong are busy planting them to ensure they adhere to the planting schedule. Farmers are introducing mechanization into carrot production, helping to speed up the growing season. To ensure good growth and development of carrots, farmers apply base fertilizer before planting. Farmers use seed planters to ensure that the seedlings grow evenly and in straight rows, making them easier to care for. After planting, the carrot rows will be covered with straw for protection. Water the plants to keep the soil moist. It is expected that in about 15 days, farmers in Hai Phong will have finished planting their winter carrot crop.
This winter, Hai Phong city plans to plant nearly 1,300 hectares of carrots, concentrated in the communes of Tue Tinh and Thai Tan, with a production of 70,000-80,000 tons per year. More than 70% of the city's carrot production is exported to Japan, South Korea, Thailand, etc., while the remainder is consumed domestically.
