Ocean 'God' openly operates
According to fishermen and tourists, in the past 2 weeks, in the core area - where the heritage of Ha Long Bay is absolutely protected - many fishing boats have appeared using destructive fishing tools.
Fishing boats equipped with trawlers are destroying the marine environment.
Accordingly, these fishing boats are equipped with tools that threaten the marine environment such as dredgers and electric poles. It is worth noting that these fishing boats operate openly during the day.
According to Thanh Nien reporters, over the past week, from noon to evening, fishing boats divided into groups of about 2-3 boats, started their engines and sailed to the above area to carry out fishing activities.
From the canoe, Thanh Nien reporters observed that fishing boats were equipped with many prohibited devices such as: te, xiec, electric shock, electric shock, octagonal cage, mollusk rake, net with mesh size smaller than prescribed... Some fishing boats even did not have registration numbers.
The dredges sweep the seabed, sparing no seafood.
Taking us to Bai Tu Long Bay, not far from Tuan Chau Island, Mr. TVD (45 years old, a fisherman from Quang Yen Town, Quang Ninh ) pointed to the destructive fishing vessels and said: "Recently, destructive fishing vessels have returned to Ha Long Bay to exploit aquatic resources more and more densely. They still plow day and night, threatening the marine environment and openly operating during the day. We really hope that the authorities need to have stricter sanctions for such destructive fishing vessels."
"They just drop electric wires and rakes into the sea, circling around the sea for just a few hours and seafood, big and small, just fall into the trap. If more than a dozen rakes sweep like that every day, what will be left of the marine environment?", Mr. TVD said in frustration.
As the fishermen reported, when we passed by any boat, we saw trawlers and electric nets openly used by the fishermen.
Enough tricks to avoid the authorities
When Thanh Nien reporters provided real images of the recurrence of destructive fishing activities in Ha Long Bay, almost every force complained about difficulties and told about the ways in which destructive fishing vessels avoided them.
Explosive fishing boats openly operate in broad daylight on Ha Long Bay
At the Border Guard Station of Hon Gai Port (Quang Ninh Border Guard), a representative of the unit said that since the beginning of the year, 17 cases of destructive fishing have been handled, with administrative fines of about 400 million VND, not to mention many cases in coordination with other forces.
Speaking with Thanh Nien reporters, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quang Doanh, Chief of the Border Guard Station at Hon Gai Port, said that the unit is very serious about handling destructive fishing vessels, this is one of the unit's key tasks.
"Fishing boats try every way to avoid us. When they see the presence of the authorities, they can use knives to cut the rope, making it difficult to catch them in the act. Or we will handle a case where they will report to each other to hide the equipment," said Lieutenant Colonel Doanh.
There are ships without license plates.
Meanwhile, the main unit of the Quang Ninh Border Guard, Squadron 2, also said that since the beginning of the year, more than 50 violations have been handled in the waters of Ha Long Bay.
Lieutenant Colonel Pham Hong Tuyen, Political Commissar of Squadron 2 (Quang Ninh Border Guard), said: "Fishing boats are often equipped with 2W walkie-talkies. Once they capture a boat, they will report to another boat to find a way to escape. Catching a boat red-handed at sea is very difficult and requires the overall participation of other functional forces such as: Fisheries Surveillance; Inspection Team, handling violations in Ha Long Bay...
According to Squadron 2 (Quang Ninh Border Guard), not only in Ha Long Bay, but in recent times, the situation of destructive fishing has shown signs of increasing. If there are no measures, deterrence, and propaganda to change the awareness of fishermen, the marine environment in this area will be increasingly damaged.
