Of which, the Pơmu Agricultural and Tourism Cooperative planted 4,000 trees on an area of 500m2 ; the Tay Giang District Agricultural Technical Center planted 742 trees on an area of 9,800m2 in plot 10, sub-area 83, at an altitude of 1,320m - surrounded by natural forest.
The growing areas all have forest coverage of more than 70%, cool climate all year round, average temperature of 16-22°C. These are ideal conditions for Ngoc Linh ginseng to grow and develop.
Monitoring results show that the survival rate of the trees after one year is 80-90%; the trees are growing steadily, reaching the standards in height and number of leaves, and have begun to flower and bear fruit. In particular, some trees planted for 5-7 years have formed tubers and are eligible for experimental exploitation.
One notable point is that Ngoc Linh ginseng grown in Tay Giang rarely encounters pests and diseases, mainly affected by root fungi in the rainy season if coverage and good drainage are not ensured.
Thanks to the application of organic care measures such as shading, manual weeding, and biological pest control, ginseng has the ability to adapt well and develop sustainably.
Tay Giang District People's Committee assessed that the initial results showed that the Ngoc Linh ginseng growing model in the locality is highly feasible, which is an important basis for expanding new growing areas, contributing to the conservation of Vietnam's precious endemic medicinal species; at the same time, creating a new direction in developing a green and sustainable economy for the people in the highlands.
The district recommends that the province and departments continue to pay attention to supporting funding for ginseng care from 2025 onwards; at the same time, promote procedures to expand the scope of protection of the geographical indication "Ngoc Linh" for ginseng grown in Tay Giang to enhance the value, brand and competitiveness of ginseng products in domestic and foreign markets.
