Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon.com, has announced that PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel), Southeast Asia's largest telecommunications provider, has chosen AWS as its preferred cloud computing provider to enhance IT agility, improve operational efficiency, and accelerate the rollout of customer services.
According to Telkomsel's digital transformation roadmap, the telecommunications company will move many IT applications to AWS, including customer contact channels, Telkomsel's Gaming Store Front, middleware, and machine learning applications. This shift will help Telkomsel improve the user experience by providing news services to over 153 million subscribers, in the context of Indonesia having the fastest-growing smartphone user base in the world .
Telkomsel operates 15 applications, including MyTelkomsel, DigiPos Aja!, Telkomsel's Gaming Store Front, Enterprise Service Bus… and several cloud-based data platforms on AWS. This allows Telkomsel to reduce new infrastructure deployment time from seven days to under one hour, while also shortening the launch time for new applications and digital services by up to 40%.
Hendri Mulya Syam, CEO of Telkomsel, said: “The application of AWS’s leading cloud computing technology has opened up many future opportunities for our business. Utilizing the AWS Asia Pacific (Jakarta) region helps ensure our data is protected by robust security measures and strict regulatory compliance.” According to Conor McNamara, Managing Director of AWS ASEAN, bringing Amazon and AWS Skills Guild to Telkomsel ensures the company has the necessary infrastructure and digital skills for innovation and readiness for the digital future, enabling Telkomsel to thrive.
