Travel trends for the 2026 New Year holiday.
Although the 2026 New Year's Day holiday only lasts one day, many Vietnamese tourists are choosing to combine their vacation days to create longer holidays. According to travel companies, this trend shows a clear divergence: one group seeks convenience at familiar domestic resorts, while the other explores new cultures through short trips in Asia.
Mid-range tours, lasting 4-5 days and offering a variety of experiences for families and young children, especially those without shopping and with direct flights, are currently the most popular.
Phu Quoc: The most popular domestic destination.
Phu Quoc continues to assert its position as a leading domestic destination during this holiday season. Data from major travel platforms shows a surge in searches for the island compared to the same period last year. The island not only attracts domestic tourists but is also a top choice for international visitors to Vietnam.
Phu Quoc's appeal stems from its white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and diverse range of resorts and amusement parks, making it ideal for multi-generational family vacations.

Recently, Phu Quoc has continuously received prestigious international awards, further increasing the island's popularity. Specifically, it has received the title of "World's Leading Natural Island Destination" for the fourth time at the World Travel Awards 2025. Landmarks such as Bai Kem Beach, the Kiss Bridge, and Sunset Town were also honored in important categories.
Asia: A top choice for overseas travel
For international travel, destinations in Asia dominate. Bangkok (Thailand) remains a popular choice due to its reasonable cost and vibrant entertainment options. Besides Bangkok, Japan, and Seoul (South Korea) are also among the most searched destinations.
China: Its strong appeal is making a comeback.
China is showing a strong comeback on the Vietnamese travel map. Searches for major cities like Shanghai and Beijing have increased significantly. In particular, Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang province, has become an extremely attractive winter destination, offering a unique snow and ice experience.

Solutions for short vacations
To meet the needs of tourists with only one day off, travel companies have introduced flexible products. 24-hour packages such as 5-star cruises in Ha Long Bay or "staycation" packages at luxury hotels in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City are becoming popular among high-income customers with limited time.
