The Ethnic Minority Boarding Primary and Secondary School in Mau Son commune is located in a remote area (Zone 3), with difficult transportation conditions, approximately 36km from the center of Cao Loc district, Lang Son province. The school and villages are perched precariously on the peaks of Cong Son and Mau Son mountains, experiencing bitterly cold winters with occasional snow and ice. Currently, there are 98 students attending, mostly from the Dao ethnic group, all from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The children received gifts to take home for the Lunar New Year celebration.

Ms. Lam Thuy Nga, Principal of Mau Son Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School, said: "Currently, the school has 28 staff members (including 18 teachers), all of whom are dedicated to their profession and committed to the community. All the students live in the boarding school because their homes are far away, some as far as 20km. Therefore, the teachers act as both educators and caregivers, nurturing and guiding the children daily. Regarding basic salaries, the teachers here are guaranteed, averaging over 20 million VND per month, with additional bonuses such as regional teacher recruitment incentives and regional allowances."

The Dao ethnic minority students at the school were able to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) early and in abundance.

Speaking about preparations for the upcoming Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025, Ms. Nga shared: “Because the school is far away, and many teachers participate in training courses at the end of the year, the expenses are high, but the school tries to save money so that each teacher receives an additional 500,000 VND at the end of the year.”

"This year, we are very excited because Cao Loc district has implemented Decree 73/2024/ND-CP on regulations regarding the basic salary and bonus regime for officials and civil servants. Roughly speaking, the school has received an additional 145 million VND from this source for teachers during Tet," Ms. Nga said happily.

Youth volunteers and the school collaborated to organize an early year-end celebration to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025.

Ms. Nga further shared that the school has always received attention, support, and assistance from all levels and sectors. On January 3, 2025, the youth of the Procuracy, in coordination with the Cao Loc District Youth Union, organized the "Winter of Love" program at the school with many meaningful gifts and 100 lunch meals for the students. Recently, from January 18 to 20, the Youth Union of Hanoi Law University, in coordination with the Lang Son Provincial Youth Union, implemented the "Spring of Love" program and organized an "Early Year-End Celebration" for the teachers and students of Mau Son Ethnic Minority Boarding Primary and Secondary School.
