From small gifts and free medical check-ups to propaganda activities and community engagement events, all have contributed to strengthening the bond of solidarity between the military and the people, building a solid foundation of popular support in the majestic Trường Sơn mountain range.
Join hands to organize the Festival for Peace in the Village
In the last days of July, the Central Highlands experienced days of continuous rain, sometimes heavy, sometimes light. The roads were slippery and muddy, with basalt soil clinging to the grass along the roadside. From early morning, task forces consisting of soldiers from the unit and local police officers climbed mountains and crossed slopes to reach villages and hamlets in the area to spread awareness and encourage people to participate in the National Security Day. The soldiers and youth union members, carrying backpacks and small loudspeakers, went from house to house distributing leaflets, chatting, and explaining about maintaining security and order.

There were afternoons when a light rain fell, gently pattering on the stilt houses, banana groves, and leaning bamboo fences. As dusk fell, low-hanging clouds drifted, and a hazy mist enveloped the red dirt paths. At the cultural centers in the villages and hamlets, people gathered to listen to the propaganda of the police and soldiers; the atmosphere was truly warm and heartfelt.
Everyday stories were told in a mix of standard Vietnamese and local dialects, simple yet easy to understand and relatable. Thanks to this, people in the villages and hamlets understood better and were determined to participate in maintaining village security, signing pledges not to violate the law. Soldiers and police officers worked together to educate the people on adhering to the Party's policies and guidelines, uniting to care for labor and production to develop family economies , voluntarily surrendering illegal weapons, explosives, and supporting tools; strictly complying with the Law on Marriage and Family and the Law on Drug Prevention and Control; helping people understand the consequences of child marriage and consanguineous marriage; being vigilant against brokers and fraudsters who exploit marriage to carry out illegal activities in ethnic minority areas; preventing and controlling diseases; raising awareness about methods of preventing and combating online fraud, trafficking of women and children, and job placements involving "easy work, high pay"...

The festival was held on July 26th at the former headquarters of the People's Committee of Dak Ngo commune, nestled in a small valley surrounded by the Philote village and lush green coffee and cashew plantations. Early in the morning, people of the M'nong, H'Mong, Tay, and Nung ethnic groups, dressed in their traditional costumes and holding invitations, flocked to the festival, their faces beaming with joy.
At the event, Mr. Pham Quoc Trong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tan Commune, Lam Dong Province, stated: “The National Security Protection Day is an important occasion for the people to raise awareness and responsibility in maintaining security and order. The coordination of Regiment 720 in propaganda, medical examinations, and gift giving has created a very positive effect, helping people understand more, trust more, and cooperate with the government in maintaining peace in the villages and hamlets. We hope that in the future, we will continue to receive the support of Regiment 720 to contribute to building a stronger and more developed locality.”
Medical check-ups and gift-giving - Heartwarming display of solidarity between soldiers and civilians in the highlands.
One of the highlights was the program of free medical examinations, distribution of medicine, and gift-giving to the people and families entitled to preferential policies. The medical team of Regiment 720 examined, measured blood pressure, provided health advice, and distributed free medicine to more than 500 people, mainly the elderly, orphans, families entitled to preferential policies, and poor households.

Along the roads leading to the event venue, many sections were slippery dirt paths. Despite the sudden jungle rain, the villagers braved the weather, making an effort to arrive early for their medical check-ups. Members of the unit assisted in guiding the villagers, cleaning up the event area, bringing chairs to the elderly, and distributing medicine alongside the military medical personnel. These simple yet heartwarming scenes deeply moved everyone who witnessed them.
On this occasion, Regiment 720 also presented 33 gifts, each worth 500,000 VND, to families of policy beneficiaries, meritorious individuals, relatives of martyrs, and impoverished households.
Mr. Dieu Yak, a M'nong ethnic minority member from Philote village, emotionally shared: "Today, the soldiers provided free medical examinations and medicine. Many others and I also received gifts; our people are very happy. Thank you so much to the soldiers!"
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Son, Commander of Regiment 720, said: “The medical examinations, gift giving, and accompanying the people are not only regular civilian outreach activities, but also concrete manifestations of military-civilian solidarity, contributing to building an increasingly solid foundation of people's support. This activity is part of a series of activities in the unit's high-intensity emulation campaign "Raising the Red Flag of August - striving for 3 bests" to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd, to welcome the 6th Congress of the Party Committee of the Army Corps, term 2025-2030; the 12th Congress of the Party Committee of the Army and the 11th Congress of the All-Army Emulation Campaign, and at the same time, together with the local Party committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Quang Tan commune to welcome the 1st Congress of the Party Committee of the commune.”

Contributing to the success of the event was the active and responsible participation of the youth union members of Regiment 720. With a pioneering spirit, the union members participated in everything from preparation, organizational support, guiding the local people, recording medical examinations, to cultural and sports exchanges with local youth.
Within the festival grounds, next to the medical examination and medication distribution area, a small corner attracted many people as youth union members from Regiment 720 and the local authorities guided residents on using smartphones and accessing online public services. The youth union members patiently demonstrated each step: how to install the VNeID application, how to look up land information, administrative procedures, or submit applications online. For the local people with limited access to technology, this knowledge opened a new door, helping them to be more proactive in their lives, save time and effort, and avoid online scams. Many elderly people held the hands of the youth union members, emotionally thanking them for having seen and heard about it on television and radio many times, but now being shown how to do it themselves on their phones.
Doan Thi Quynh Hoa, a member of the Young Intellectuals Volunteer Team currently working at Regiment 720 under the Project "Strengthening Young Intellectuals Volunteers to work in Economic-Defense Zones" until the end of 2030, as per Decision No. 1529/QD-TTg dated September 15, 2021, of the Prime Minister, smiled brightly and said: "Participating in activities like this is a valuable opportunity for us to train, mature, and better understand the responsibilities of soldiers to the people."
At the festival venue, the performing arts troupes from the villages and hamlets in the commune showcased folk songs reflecting the unique characteristics of each ethnic group, accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of gongs and drums. The image of soldiers smiling and mingling with the village youth left a lasting positive impression. Laughter, handshakes, and sincere expressions of gratitude erased all barriers.
The first National Security Day in Quang Tan commune, Lam Dong province, since the merger under the two-tiered local government system, was not only an opportunity to raise awareness in the community about ensuring security and order, but also a gathering place for the solidarity between the military and the people. The concrete, responsible, and humane actions of the officers and soldiers of Regiment 720, from medical examinations and gift-giving to accompanying the people, left a deep impression on the local residents. This further affirmed the role of the army in peacetime: not only a force protecting the Fatherland, but also a reliable and close support for the people. The bond between the military and the people is strengthened, and the people's support is even more solid.
