13-year-old 'prodigy' accepted to more than 100 American universities

At just 13 years old, Sunny Nguyen from San Jose surprised many people when he was accepted by more than 100 universities.

Sharing in an interview with KTVU, Sunny said: "My parents talked to me about going to college, I agreed, and now I'm here." According to Tommy Nguyen, Sunny's father, the boy is the firstborn, behind him are 4 younger siblings. Since childhood, Sunny Nguyen has always shown special qualities.

"He loves math. He learns math everywhere. He sees math in everything, everywhere," he said.

Mr. Tommy Nguyen believes that his son can do anything he wants in life. Sunny especially loves technology. He often makes websites and learns about software engineering and artificial intelligence at home.

Like many teenagers, Sunny admits to being a gamer. He also has a YouTube channel with nearly 60,000 subscribers. When Tommy Nguyen decided that public school and homeschooling were no longer a good fit for his son, he decided to apply to college for Sunny.

"We were really surprised. Schools kept sending acceptance letters and scholarships home like rain," he said.

Several prestigious universities such as UC Berkeley, UC San Diego and many public universities in California have sent Sunny admission letters. The boy expressed a special interest in artificial intelligence (AI) and hopes to use this technology to create tools to help people live longer.

"I think the most exciting thing is to wait and see what happens next," Sunny said.

To date, Sunny has received a total of over $3 million in scholarships from schools. "Every school has given her a scholarship. Some schools have even given her a scholarship of over $100,000," said Tommy.

Wherever she chooses to study, Sunny plans to major in Computer Science and has dreams of changing the world.
