Báo Lai ChâuBáo Lai Châu12/06/2023

(BLC) - Than Uyên is a locality with a rich cultural tradition. The Party committees and authorities at all levels are proactively implementing solutions to preserve long-standing humanistic values. As a result, folk culture is less likely to be lost to the passage of time and the influence of foreign cultures...

Than Uyên is a fertile land with a rich cultural heritage of 10 ethnic groups living together. However, reality shows that some traditional cultural values of the ethnic groups in Than Uyên district, as well as many other localities, are facing the risk of disappearing due to the impact of the market economy and the explosion of information technology. Traditional cultural spaces are shrinking, and the architecture of houses, customs, costumes, and festivals of some ethnic groups are changing. Many folk songs, traditional dances, traditional musical instruments, and some handicrafts are at risk of being lost. The younger generation also uses ethnic languages less in communication.

In order to preserve and promote the beautiful cultural identity of ethnic groups in conjunction with tourism development during the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030, the District Party Committee has focused on leading, directing, and organizing the implementation of many key solutions to contribute to the preservation and promotion of many traditional cultural features. Throughout the implementation process, Than Uyên district has always emphasized propaganda work, contributing to raising awareness among Party committees and authorities, and creating consensus among the people of all ethnic groups in the district in preserving and promoting their beautiful cultural identity.

Folklore is preserved in schools in Than Uyên.

According to Mr. Lo Van Huong, Provincial Party Committee member, Secretary of the Than Uyen District Party Committee, and Chairman of the Than Uyen District People's Council, Than Uyen district has focused on researching, collecting, restoring, preserving, and promoting folk cultural values. To date, Than Uyen has successfully restored the Kin Pang and Han Khuong festivals of the Thai ethnic group and the New Rice Festival of the Khmu ethnic group. In addition, at cultural festivals and events in communes with ethnic minority communities, excerpts from festivals such as the rice planting ceremony, housewarming ceremony, wedding procession, coming-of-age ceremony, and the Gau Tao festival of the Dao, Mong, and other ethnic groups living in the district have been reenacted. Through these efforts, customs and beautiful aspects of daily life are preserved and promoted, giving the district a new lease of life.

In addition, Than Uyên district has maintained the activities of cultural and artistic groups in the local community. Currently, the district has 131 cultural and artistic groups that regularly organize and maintain cultural and artistic activities. The district has also maintained two Then singing and Dan Tinh playing clubs in Muong Cang and Hua Na communes. Several localities have established and improved the effectiveness of the Folk Culture Preservation Committee and Thai folk singing clubs.

According to Mr. Lo Van Soi from Muong Cang commune, the activities of the performing arts groups have contributed to giving folk performing arts more space to perform. This is a natural and effective way to preserve art – folk culture only affirms itself and survives when it attracts more and more audiences after each performance.

To enrich the souls of children through folk culture, Than Uyên district has recently focused on establishing clubs for preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups in schools throughout the district. According to Mr. Trinh Ngoc Hai, Head of the Education and Training Department of Than Uyên district, schools across the district have formed clubs for folk dances, traditional flutes, bamboo poles, and folk games. Some schools have also mobilized artisans to pass on traditional crafts such as embroidery and weaving. As a result, traditional folk culture not only contributes to enriching the souls of children but is also nurtured within the school environment.

The synchronized implementation of solutions will help preserve cultural beauty, contributing to improving cultural life in residential areas; many traditional beauties have strongly attracted tourists, becoming tourism products of Than Uyên, a land of wind.
