Currently, in Thanh Hoa province, there are more than 37,000 martyrs whose identities have not been determined, of which more than 10,000 martyrs have no relatives to collect DNA samples. About 27,000 martyrs still have relatives who can participate in collecting samples to serve the purpose of determining their identities through genetic testing.
Implementing the direction of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Public Security and the Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province on promoting the work of identifying martyrs, the Provincial Police mobilized maximum forces, closely coordinated with departments, branches and specialized units to organize 25 working groups and deploy 120 sample collection stations across the province.

From May 12-16, 2025, in phase 1, Thanh Hoa became the locality with the largest number of DNA samples collected nationwide, with 933 samples (including 932 samples from the martyrs' biological mothers and 1 sample from a close relative on the mother's side). Initial matching results identified the identities of the two martyrs as Trinh Van Hai (Dong Thanh commune) and Trinh Quang Lam (Nga An commune).
Continuing that success, in phase 2 from July 3-20, 2025, with the motto "Not leaving any sample behind, not mistaking any relative; acting urgently but absolutely accurately", Thanh Hoa Provincial Police continued to coordinate with Genestory Company and specialized units to collect 36,454 DNA samples, exceeding the assigned target by nearly 1,000 samples. From this result, the identity of one more martyr was determined.

Speaking at the conference, Comrade Nguyen Doan Anh - Secretary of Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee affirmed: "The establishment of a DNA gene bank has great significance for the families of martyrs. This is not only a professional activity, but also a vivid symbol of national morality, the deep gratitude of the Thanh Hoa Police force towards the heroic martyrs and their relatives".
In order for the DNA sample collection program to be effective and have a wide impact in the community, the Provincial Party Secretary requested that all levels, sectors and localities step up information and propaganda work so that people can clearly understand the humanistic value of the program and actively participate. At the same time, the Provincial Police continue to closely coordinate with local authorities in reviewing and completing documents, and collecting complete and accurate samples.

At the conference, the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 10 individuals, and the Provincial Police also awarded Certificates of Merit to 10 individuals who made active contributions to the work of collecting DNA samples. Immediately after the conference, the Organizing Committee continued to collect DNA samples from relatives of martyrs in localities throughout the province.

With the decisive, responsible and humane participation of the Thanh Hoa Police force and all levels, sectors and the consensus of the people, the program to identify martyrs by DNA testing is gradually reconnecting the "sacred thread" between relatives and heroes who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
