Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son has signed a decision to establish a branch of Can Tho University in Soc Trang province.

According to information from the Board of Directors of Can Tho University, on May 5th, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son signed a decision to establish a branch of Can Tho University in Soc Trang. The decision is effective from the date of signing.

According to the decision, Can Tho University is responsible for reporting to the Ministry of Education and Training on the conditions for ensuring educational quality in order to allow its branch in Soc Trang to carry out training activities in accordance with the law.

Areas A and B of Soc Trang Community College are home to the Can Tho University branch campus.

Previously, on October 10, 2024, the People's Committee of Soc Trang province held a ceremony to temporarily hand over the facilities of areas A and B of Soc Trang Provincial Community College to Can Tho University to establish a branch campus in the province.

According to the People's Committee of Soc Trang province, education and training are always prioritized in the province's socio -economic development programs and plans. The Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee has issued an action program to implement the Central Committee's resolution on human resource development in Soc Trang province for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030.

Furthermore, along with socio-economic development, the demand for university and postgraduate education among students, citizens, and officials in the province is increasing. Specifically, in the 2023-2024 academic year, the province had 10,000 high school graduates; and in the 2024-2025 academic year, there will be 10,472 12th-grade students.

The biggest challenge for Soc Trang is the lack of university-level training facilities to train high-skilled human resources; there are still very few officials, civil servants, and public employees with high professional qualifications (postgraduate level) in many sectors.

Meanwhile, Soc Trang has a great need for high-quality human resources to serve the Tran De deep-water port, logistics zone, industrial zones and clusters, and to facilitate the restructuring of the labor force, gradually meeting the requirements of the industrial revolution. Therefore, establishing a branch of Can Tho University in Soc Trang will significantly contribute to meeting this urgent need of the province.
