To accurately check the current battery level on a Windows 11 computer, users could only hover their mouse over the battery icon or use a third-party application like Battery Flyout. Microsoft eventually discovered this limitation after some time and is working on improving it.

Windows 11 is moving closer to displaying the battery percentage on the taskbar.

In the latest Windows 11 Dev build, users have discovered several new features added by the company, including an updated battery indicator. Specifically, Microsoft will allow the operating system to display the battery percentage right next to the battery icon in the system tray.

More importantly, to meet user needs, Microsoft also provides the option to turn the battery percentage display on or off, allowing users to customize the interface to their personal preferences. Currently, this update has not been officially announced by Microsoft, however, the company's software engineers are actively working on perfecting the tool.

For users who can't wait to experience this new feature, they can activate the battery percentage indicator using the ViVeTool app. To do this, users need to ensure they are using build 26120.2992. Users can check their build in Settings > System > About > OS build .

  • Download the ViveTool from GitHub and extract the files to a location most convenient for making declarations in the following steps.
  • Open Command Prompt with administrator privileges. Here, navigate to the folder containing the ViVeTool files using the 'CD' command. For example, if ViVeTool is located in C:\Vive , type ' CD C:\Vive '.
  • Type the command ' livetool /enable /id:48822452,48433719 ' and press Enter.
  • Restart your computer. After restarting, you can go to Settings > Power and turn on the battery percentage indicator.
