On July 11, in Da Nang city, the Ministry of Health coordinated with relevant units to organize the opening of the Dialogue Conference between the Ministry of Health and medical equipment enterprises in 2024. The conference was attended by more than 300 enterprises nationwide. Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen attended and chaired the conference.

The conference is an opportunity for managers and businesses to share, discuss and find solutions to overcome difficulties and problems that have existed in the past, thereby contributing to perfecting the management system, removing bottlenecks in medical equipment management, and contributing to protecting and improving people's health.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen said: The medical equipment sector in our country has made great strides in implementing management integration over the past 10 years.

In an effort to harmonize the rules governing the medical device sector, ASEAN has developed the ASEAN Agreement on Medical Devices (AMDD). In Vietnam, Decree 36/2016/ND-CP; Decree 169/2019/ND-CP, Decree 98/2021/ND-CP, Decree 07/2023/ND-CP have been issued and unified the management of medical devices in basic harmony with the provisions of the AMDD. The medical device sector has made great contributions to improving health indicators and average life expectancy of Vietnamese people.

The Ministry of Health highly appreciates the positive performance of the enterprise in various aspects of work such as supplying the market with hundreds of thousands of types and codes of medical equipment of all kinds with increasingly high quality, efficiency, sustainability and reasonable costs, basically meeting the needs of health care and protection of the people.

Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen suggested that medical equipment enterprises need to be more proactive and pay more attention to professional work, improving the quality of medical equipment products supplied to the market and people at reasonable costs.

Expand international cooperation, promote technology transfer and develop domestic medical equipment production, gradually integrate and participate in the global medical equipment supply chain;

Increase participation in contributing opinions and providing feedback to perfect institutions and policies on medical equipment of state management agencies, first of all, contributing opinions to the drafting of the Law on Medical Equipment.

According to Vietnam Report Joint Stock Company, Vietnam's total spending on medical equipment is currently about 2.3 billion USD. Vietnam is one of the countries with a potential medical equipment market in the region and the world.

According to the Department of Infrastructure and Medical Equipment (Ministry of Health), the number of dossiers that have not been granted circulation numbers according to Decree 98/2021/ND-CP is currently very large. Specifically, there are currently nearly 8,000 dossiers pending while the import license will expire on December 31, 2024.

As of June 27, the Ministry of Health has received 11,118 applications for registration of circulation of medical devices of type C and D for urgent and urgent use, of which 10,684 applications have been assessed and processed (accounting for 96.0%), of which: 3,446 applications have been licensed (accounting for 30.9%); 1,044 applications have been revoked, canceled or rejected (accounting for 9.4%); 6,194 applications have had written requests for additional information (accounting for 55.7%).

The conference runs until July 12.
