Removing infrastructure bottlenecks will boost tourism.

After a long wait, the project connecting Ban Xeo - Den Sang - Y Ty and the investment project to build the Y Ty tourism sub-area within the Sa Pa National Tourist Area have been completed, helping to remove the "bottleneck" in transportation infrastructure for Y Ty and the surrounding area, opening up opportunities for tourism there.

Reduce travel time.

At 7 a.m., the tour bus carrying the group from Sa Pa, preparing for the Lao Than mountain climbing tour, arrived. Ms. Nguyen Thu Trang, a member of the climbing group, said: "We left Sa Pa early because we were worried about the bad roads, but unexpectedly, the roads were so good. Saving travel time allowed us more time to visit many places in Y Ty."

Like Thu Trang and her group of mountain climbers, many tourist groups have flocked to Y Tý these days after hearing the news that the final meters of the road to Y Tý are being paved.

Having had the opportunity to travel on the road from Ban Xeo through Den Sang to Y Ty during the construction period, I truly felt the joy of the locals and tourists when the road was completed.

Mr. Sung A Ho, who runs a homestay and provides services for tourists climbing Mount Lao Than, shared: "Before the road construction, it was muddy when it rained and dusty when it was sunny. It took almost 4 hours to travel from Lao Cai ward to Y Ty. Some groups of tourists who booked rooms in the afternoon didn't arrive until late at night. Now, the travel time has been halved."

The Y Tý tourism sub-area construction project, part of the Sa Pa National Tourist Area, spanning 4 km, and the Bản Xèo - Dền Sáng - Y Tý road renovation and upgrading project, with a total length of 33.58 km, are considered key infrastructure routes for the Y Tý tourism area.

Construction began in early 2022, and according to plan, these projects were scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023. However, difficulties and obstacles in land clearance caused the projects to be extended several times. Now, the people are all happy that the projects are nearing completion.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Tien, Deputy Director of the Bat Xat Area Investment and Construction Project Management Board, said: "Currently, the obstacles in land clearance have been resolved, and we are urging contractors to complete the asphalt paving of the road surface before the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026 to ensure convenient travel for residents and tourists."

What can be done to boost tourism?

These projects not only create a seamless connection with the road from Lao Cai ward to Muong Hum but also contribute to resolving the infrastructure bottlenecks that have plagued tourism in Y Ty and the surrounding areas over the past period.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Y Ty commune, shared: "Y Ty has great potential in agriculture and tourism. These are also two key areas in economic development and improving people's lives. However, difficulties in connecting transportation infrastructure have prevented these strengths from being fully exploited for a long time."

These two projects are sections of Provincial Road 158, the backbone route passing through many communes in the northwestern part of the former Bat Xat district, and are among the important infrastructure frameworks in the Y Ty tourist area planning.

"In the near future, Y Tý will invest in and upgrade the main village and inter-village roads connecting to this main road to create a complete transportation network," Mr. Nguyen Van Tai added.

Many previously unfinished plans by local authorities and tourism service businesses have been restarted. These days, Mr. Sung A Ho is busy renovating his guest rooms and grounds to welcome guests during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.

Mr. Sung A Ho said: "During the road construction period, travel was difficult, causing a decrease in the number of tourists. After the road is completed, the number of tourists coming to Y Ty will increase significantly."

Sharing the same joy as Mr. Sung A Ho upon the completion of the road, Mr. Ly Xa Xuy - Chairman of the Y Ty Tourism Club - shared: "Y Ty has great potential for tourism development, from its climate and natural landscapes to its rich traditional culture. Previously, tourism in Y Ty did not develop to its full potential due to difficult transportation infrastructure. Now that the road is completed, we are determined to create a breakthrough for Y Ty tourism."

With dedication and responsibility, the members of the Y Tý Tourism Club are working together to create truly unique Y Tý tourism products so that every visitor has memorable experiences.

Y Tý tourism, already famous for its waterfall season, golden rice paddies, and cloud-hunting season, now needs more services to attract and retain tourists. Along with that, it's crucial to preserve its unique features, especially the traditional rammed-earth houses of the Hà Nhì ethnic group, a characteristic that defines the Y Tý tourism brand.

To effectively develop its tourism potential, Y Tý commune collaborated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize a workshop attended by businesses, researchers, and tourism managers. Experts offered many ideas to help the commune improve its business management, product development, and tourism development planning.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Y Tý commune, Nguyen Van Tai, emphasized: "Along with the increasing number of tourists, Y Tý is expected to welcome a new wave of investment, which is posing difficult challenges for land management and public order management in the locality. Currently, the government is taking steps in planning and managing tourism development in the area. Otherwise, Y Tý tourism will not be able to break through and fully realize its potential."
