Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the afternoon of July 14, a representative of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang said that they had sent information reflecting the "ripping off" of tourists from a tour guide to the locality where the incident occurred for verification.
"According to the assignment of tasks, the ward government will directly handle such cases of price gouging. We are also waiting for the results" - said a representative of the Department.
Speaking to reporters the same afternoon, Mr. QH, the tour guide in charge of the Lao tourist group visiting Da Nang, said that at 7:00 p.m. on July 13, his group of 6 people stopped at a sidewalk restaurant on Duong Dinh Nghe Street (An Hai Ward, Da Nang) for a late-night snack.
When the guests ordered, Mr. H. said he was staying at the hotel so he didn't know. When the meal was almost over, Mr. H. came out to welcome the group, a guest gave him a piece of paper with a total bill of 760,000 VND for a meal of very simple dishes, the restaurant was not a restaurant but sold on the sidewalk.

According to Mr. H., because customers are not familiar with prices in Da Nang , when they have to pay a large amount of money, one person wonders to him, "Is this price too high?"
"I looked at the dishes on the paper, including 4 octopus skewers, 2 okra skewers, 1 chicken foot, 3 Chinese sausages. The total amount that the restaurant owner collected was 760,000 VND.
Seeing that my customer was being ripped off, I argued fiercely with the seller. Only when I ran across the street to talk to a nearby police officer did the restaurant owner return the 200,000 VND.
"Thus, my group of guests had to pay 560,000 VND for very basic street food," Mr. H. told reporters on the afternoon of July 14.
Outraged by the incident, on the evening of July 13, Mr. H. took photos of the restaurant and the vendor involved in the incident and posted them on social media. The incident is causing a stir in the tourism community in Da Nang.
Many people think that the signs of "price gouging" in the incident are obvious because the restaurant is located on the sidewalk, the dishes are very ordinary, not in a luxury restaurant.
"As of the afternoon of July 14, I still haven't received any calls from any authorities to verify," said Mr. H.
