“Immediately after Duc Chien returned from the national team, the Board of Directors met and discussed directly. However, Duc Chien announced that he would not sign a new contract with the club. At the same time, Duc Chien also did not ensure the quality of the next training sessions to prepare for the remaining matches of the season,” The Cong Viettel announced on the morning of July 2 about the early termination of the contract with center back Nguyen Duc Chien.

The announcement from the army team continued: “Duc Chien proactively asked the head coach that he was not physically fit enough and would not play in the match against Hanoi while the team was very short of players. The desire to win is always in us and only those who want to leave would say otherwise.”

On June 15, The Cong Viettel suddenly parted ways with Duc Chien even though his contract still had 2 months left. Immediately after that, Duc Chien repeatedly confirmed that he was leaving because his club asked him to stop all activities with the team. The player born in 1998 had to practice separately, was not allowed to live or participate in any activities with the team even though his contract was still valid.

However, according to the army team, Duc Chien proactively asked not to play in the match against Hanoi due to lack of physical strength in the context of the team being short of players.

“We always focus on training talents and the next generation so as not to be too affected by the market, especially when the value of players is always changing. For clubs, not just The Cong Viettel, we always have to ask the question of what is the real value of players. To make an important decision, we always consider it a problem that must be carefully considered,” the army team emphasized.

The Cong Viettel continued to affirm: "With the support of the Group's leaders, we also created the best conditions for Duc Chien to stay, even offered an attractive negotiation with Duc Chien, but the two sides could not find a common voice."

Duc Chien's new destination is Ninh Binh , a rookie in V.League 2025/26. To leave ahead of schedule, Duc Chien must pay 3 billion VND in compensation for 2 months of his contract with The Cong Viettel.
