In the early hours of July 2nd, Rodrygo sat on the bench and did not play a single minute in Real Madrid's 1-0 victory over Juventus in the Round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™. This was the third consecutive match in which the Brazilian striker did not start for the first team.
In Real Madrid's total of 360 minutes played in the tournament, Rodrygo only played a mere 88 minutes. He featured in the matches against Al Hilal and Salzburg, but was completely absent from the squad for the group stage game against Pachuca.
Statistics also highlight Rodrygo's poor form. The striker hasn't scored for Real Madrid since the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie against Atlético Madrid on March 5th.
In La Liga, Rodrygo hasn't scored a goal since January. The last time he scored for Real Madrid was against Las Palmas. Rodrygo's goal-scoring form is alarming, leading to a decline in his confidence and influence at the Bernabeu.

While Rodrygo is gradually fading into obscurity, other talents are emerging. Gonzalo García has shone at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ with 3 goals in 4 matches since the start of the tournament, putting him at the top of the club's scoring charts.
García has become a fascinating discovery, directly threatening Rodrygo's place in the team. Three crucial goals in matches against Al Hilal, RB Salzburg (group stage), and most recently Juventus (round of 16), along with an assist, show that the young striker not only knows how to finish off opponents but also set up opportunities for his teammates.
Coach Alonso tried to calm the situation by saying Rodrygo was still training well and waiting for his chance to return. However, the current circumstances suggest the Brazilian striker seems to have been ruled out of the game at the Bernabeu.
According to Fichajes , "Los Blancos" expect to earn around 90 million euros if they sell Rodrygo, should the striker decide to leave during the current transfer window.
