According to data just released by the State Bank, by the end of March, deposits from both individual customers and economic organizations of credit institutions (CIs) reached nearly 15 quadrillion VND, an increase of 1.8% compared to the previous month.

During the month, deposits from individuals and economic organizations increased by VND262,000 billion. Of which, deposits from residents reached VND7.47 million billion, up 5.73% compared to the beginning of the year. In March alone, resident deposits increased by about VND103,800 billion.

Corporate deposits reached VND7.52 trillion, down 1.92% compared to the end of 2024 but increased by more than VND158 trillion compared to the previous month.

Thus, deposit mobilization is increasing much slower than credit growth. State Bank data shows that by the end of the first quarter of 2025 , credit growth reached 3.93%.

The latest statistics from the State Bank show that as of the end of May 2025, credit in the entire economy increased by 6.52%. The State Bank has not updated the deposit growth as of this time.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Lenh, Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam, Region 2 Branch, said that in the first 5 months of the year, credit capital continued to focus on the production and business sectors and support groups of industries and sectors that are the driving force of economic growth. In particular, commercial banks closely coordinated with the Trade and Investment Promotion Center and business associations to promptly support the export sector - one of the 3 pillars of economic growth in the context of the global economy with many fluctuations due to US tariff policies.

According to Mr. Lenh, low interest rates are the driving force for credit growth of banks, at the same time creating motivation for businesses to invest in new projects, creating a spillover effect to the economy. Specifically, short-term credit programs in VND for 5 priority industries with lending interest rates of no more than 4%/year have helped a series of small and medium enterprises, export enterprises, high-tech enterprises, etc. to access preferential capital sources.

In addition, policy credit programs, social housing loans, disbursement of credit packages for forestry and aquatic products, housing credit packages for people under 35 years old, etc. create conditions for production and business development and real estate recovery.

According to the State Bank , as of April 10, 2025, the average lending interest rate for new transactions of banks is at 6.34%/year, down 0.6%/year compared to the end of 2024. Banks have published information on average lending interest rates on their websites for customers to refer to when accessing loans at low interest rates.

According to MBS research experts, credit growth this year will reach 17-18%, driven by the recovery of domestic production and consumption and the acceleration of public investment disbursement. The 12-month deposit interest rate of major banks is forecast to fluctuate between 5.5% and 6% in 2025.
