My name is Tran Giang My, and I am a student in Ho Chi Minh City. I am one of 100 people participating in the series of events commemorating the 250th anniversary of U.S. Independence Day in Ho Chi Minh City. The program was organized by the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City. |

A highlight of the series of events is an exhibition of paintings and documents about the American Founding Fathers from the White House collection. The exhibition showcases seven presidents and six talented women who helped shape the foundations of the United States. These include Presidents George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and others. |

I was particularly impressed with the US Constitution, especially the three famous opening words "We the People ." This printed version closely resembles the original Constitution adopted in 1787. |

Ms. Melissa A. Brown, the U.S. Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, was also present at the opening ceremony and extended a welcome to all of us students. "This three-day series of events aims to explore American history and culture. The program will be led by 14 Peace Corps volunteers," Ms. Melissa shared. |

During the activities, we were free to discuss American heroes, cultural icons, art, and music , and learn about universities and student life in the US. More importantly, we improved our English with American volunteers. |

A volunteer introduced me to a map of the 50 states of the United States. The map was presented in a very interesting way, providing us with a lot of information about the history and geography of each state. |

At the Founding Fathers exhibit, I was quite surprised to learn about Betsy Ross, a patriotic woman credited with sewing the first American flag, and Phillis Wheatley, the first African American woman in America to write and publish poetry. |

We watched a documentary together about one of America's most famous presidents, George Washington. |

I was also surprised by how the American volunteers introduced their own country and its historical figures. |

The atmosphere at the event was very impressive, different from my initial expectations. We were able to interact, exchange ideas, and refer to a lot of illustrative materials, including paintings, photos, and films. |

The series of activities took place over three days, from June 1st to 3rd. After its conclusion, I hope to have more opportunities to learn more about American history and culture, and to continue interacting with international volunteers to broaden my perspective and understanding of different cultures. Through these activities, the program contributes to bringing the younger generations of both countries closer together, continuing the positive development of Vietnam-US relations. |
