The atmosphere at the testing sites for the second round of the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test was not only tense for the candidates but also a time of great anxiety for their parents.

At the exam center at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, many parents said they received just as much support as their children.

Ms. Mai Thi Thuy Trang, a parent of a student at Tam Phu High School (Ho Chi Minh City), is still worried when recalling the incident that morning. Her child dropped their citizen ID card right before the exam. Both mother and child were anxious, unsure if they would be allowed into the exam room.

"However, the volunteers reassured me that VNeID could be used as an alternative, so I breathed a sigh of relief," Ms. Trang recounted.

According to her, the student volunteers at the exam site not only inquired about the candidates' well-being but also proactively observed the parents. When they saw someone looking confused, they immediately approached to offer guidance. This proactive approach made parents feel more at ease while waiting.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dao, a parent of a student at Thu Duc High School (Ho Chi Minh City), said that his family departed from Tan Uyen (formerly Binh Duong province) and had to leave very early. Along the way, he was constantly worried about whether his child might forget their documents or get stuck in traffic.

"I just stood here to see if my nephew needed anything at the exam site. Even though I arrived early, I was still worried. I didn't expect that at this exam site there would be so many cases of candidates forgetting their documents and receiving such enthusiastic support from the university students," Mr. Dao said.

He recounted the moving moment when he witnessed a candidate who had forgotten their documents burst into tears right at the school gate. Immediately, many people at the exam site came to inquire and try to help.

"That girl forgot her documents and kept sobbing. Seeing that, the exam center staff all pitched in to help. One security guard even told her to rest assured, that he or the student volunteers would drive her all the way to the exam room later. Witnessing that scene, I was very moved," Mr. Dao shared.

At the exam center at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, many parents also received similar support. Ms. Vu Lan, a parent of a student from Go Vap High School (Ho Chi Minh City), said that although she had studied there before, returning after many years still felt unfamiliar.

"I used to study at this school, but even now, coming back, I still feel lost. Luckily, the volunteer students guided me very carefully. I also told my daughter that when she goes to university, she should try to participate in activities like this to help parents who are 'directionally challenged' like me," said Mrs. Lan.

She added that her daughter had already taken the first exam, so the goal for the second round was to improve her score. However, the pressure was still immense. Thanks to the support and guidance of volunteers, both mother and daughter felt calmer before the exam.

Meanwhile, Ms. Pham My Huyen, a parent of a student at Go Vap High School (Ho Chi Minh City), said she left home at 5 a.m. because she was afraid of not being able to find her way.

"I was afraid of being late because I didn't know the way. I was driving and looking around to see if anyone else was going the same way. When I got close, I saw some volunteers standing there. They asked me questions and directed me to the turn-off. My child was inside the exam room, and I was anxious outside, but luckily, the volunteers were there to help during the exam season," Ms. Huyen said.

From a volunteer's perspective, parental pressure is readily apparent. Pham Doan Quynh Nhu, a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, said this is her second year participating in the exam support program.

"Parents are often very worried. Some keep asking for information repeatedly. Some just stand in one place and still feel uneasy. We try to explain clearly and reassure them to ease their stress," Nhu shared.

Meanwhile, Vo Hoang Thong, a student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, said that his experience taking the exam last year led him to decide to participate in this year's exam support program. "Last year, I was also confused and had to ask around for exam room information. Thanks to the support of the seniors, I had a smooth exam. Therefore, this year I want to help the candidates in return," Thong shared.
