Candidates 'complain' about long and difficult Literature exam

In this exam session, there were 20,561/21,489 candidates taking the exam, 928 candidates were absent compared to the number of candidates registered to take the exam.

The Literature exam included an excerpt from the work “The Attic Birds” by author Minh Nhat. This excerpt was longer than 1.5 A4 pages with 6 questions in the reading comprehension and essay writing sections, all focusing on the excerpt from this work. Of which, the reading comprehension section accounted for 6 points and the essay writing section accounted for 4 points.

After completing the test after 120 minutes, many candidates did not have the same confidence as in the first two subjects, Math and English, because the test was quite difficult.

Candidate Nguyen Thi Men, who took the exam at Tran Hung Dao Secondary School (Bien Hoa City), shared that she was surprised when the exam only focused on an excerpt from the short story “The Attic Birds”, so she did not do as well as the previous two exams. To do this exam, candidates must have a firm grasp of the work, while she focused on many other works.

Candidate Pham Duc Manh said that the test had too much text and many questions, but only focused on one work, so it was difficult for him to get a high score. If the reading comprehension section was based on a poem, and the essay writing section was based on a short story, or a social argumentation question related to current events, it would be better for candidates to demonstrate and make it easier to get points.

Thus, the entrance exam for grade 10 of the 2025-2026 school year has ended for most candidates. This afternoon, May 30, 2,363 candidates registered for the entrance exam to Luong The Vinh High School for the Gifted will take an additional exam in the corresponding specialized subject, with a test time of 150 minutes.

Immediately after the exam this morning, the examination boards will collect the candidates' exam papers at the centralized marking point arranged by the Departmentof Education and Training in Bien Hoa City. The marking work will be carried out by the department immediately after the exam ends.
