The 2025 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) has officially come to an end. Canadian contestant Warren Bei continues to attract attention by winning his third gold medal. This year, he was even one of five contestants to achieve a perfect score of 42/42.
Outstanding math talent
Warren Bei was born in 2008 in West Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada). Growing up in a rich academic environment, Bei soon showed a talent for mathematical reasoning and was passionate about learning mathematics.
Encouraged by teachers and academic advisors, the boy began participating in math competitions at an early age and quickly distinguished himself with his sharp analytical thinking.
According to the Canadian Mathematical Society, Warren Bei’s school years were filled with skipping grades and a passion for challenging math problems. While many of his peers balanced their studies with sports or music , he spent hours exploring math and practicing problem-solving techniques to prepare for national and international competitions.

What sets Bei apart is not only his problem-solving ability, but also his sophistication and creativity in approaching problems. He is often highly regarded for his clear, thoughtful solutions. His strong point is his combination of logical thinking and multidimensional thinking - a key factor for success in high-level math exams.
Furthermore, early exposure to Math Clubs and academic mentoring programs also helped shape Bei’s approach to problem solving. He developed the discipline to master Olympiad math knowledge that went beyond the general school curriculum.
Warren Bei first came to the limelight in 2021, when he won the Canadian Math Olympiad (CMO) championship. At the time, Bei was in Grade 9 – a rare feat in the country, as the CMO is typically reserved for high school students and requires extensive training. The CMO championship was the start of a winning streak that continued for Bei in the years that followed.
In 2023 and 2024, Bei continued to win the CMO championship with the highest score. In 2025, he won the CMO championship for the fourth consecutive time with a score of 27/35 - the highest score of that year. This achievement shows that the male student has the ability to maintain a stable performance and continuously improve his level every year.
CMO is one of Canada's most prestigious academic competitions, aiming to find outstanding mathematical talents and is a stepping stone to enter the international arena. Winning many times has placed Warren Bei in the elite group of students, leaving a prominent mark in the history of Canadian mathematics.
Bei’s CMO solutions are often used as reference material in training programs for young students. His achievements have also inspired scores of students across Canada to pursue mathematics.
Has been accepted to an American university
With the stepping stone of CMO, Warren Bei accordingly represented Canada in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). IMO is considered the most prestigious math competition for high school students in the world .
Participating for 5 consecutive times, Bei won gold medals in 2022, 2023 and 2025 and silver medals in 2021 and 2024. 2025 marked a new milestone for the 2008 male student when he achieved a perfect score, ranking 1st.

Warren Bei's achievements in 5 years of participating in IMO.
Achieving a perfect score at IMO is a rare achievement, achieved by only a handful of students globally each year. This achievement not only affirms Warren's outstanding technical ability but also makes him one of the outstanding mathematical minds in the current IMO generation.
Bei’s success at the IMO has also contributed to Canada’s reputation in the global academic community. By maintaining his performance over the years, he has contributed to the Canadian team’s ranking and influence. His achievements have also attracted attention from universities, research institutes and international Olympic organizations.
As a result, Warren Bei is considered a pioneer, setting a new standard for Canadian students in international mathematics competitions. He has become a symbol of what talent, effort and intellectual discipline can achieve on the global stage.
In addition to mathematics, Warren Bei also demonstrated outstanding abilities in the field of programming. He participated in the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) in 2023 and won a silver medal. In this competition, the male student demonstrated flexible problem-solving skills in both theory and application of algorithms.
Thanks to his outstanding talent in mathematics and computer science, Bei recently received an early admission letter from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) - one of the world's leading universities in science and technology.
As he enters university life, the solid foundation from the brainstorming sessions will serve Bei well. He is expected to engage in research activities, collaborate with global talent, and contribute to the STEM industry.
Currently, Warren Bei has not shared much about his future plans, he has only revealed that he will study at MIT and may pursue in-depth research in the fields of mathematics, computer science or both.
