There is a Do Hoai Nam who just became the Student Leader of Ho Chi Minh City.
Nam said that overcoming the other 5 in the final round was partly a matter of luck. However, the victory was considered convincing, full of courage from the journey of conquest through each round and in the final match.
I have many concerns and ideas for some programs that are somewhat modern but must be close and useful to students, so that they can proactively and actively participate.
DO HOAI NAM
The new champion of Ho Chi Minh City Student Leader was once shy in front of crowds.
Do Hoai Nam was the youngest member of the volunteer group from Ho Chi Minh City to help people in the North overcome the consequences of storm No. 3 Yagi in September. At that time, Nam was not the champion of Ho Chi Minh City Student Leader, but left an impression on others as a young, energetic and enthusiastic person in every activity with the team to help people in Lao Cai province.
Nam said his family was originally from the North and immigrated to Ho Chi Minh City, so he was quite shy for a long time before arriving. He had only a few friends, a little difference in culture, and even the accent made him tremble many times even when he was just answering questions in class. It was the days of volunteering to participate in Team activities and later the Youth Union that gradually changed him.
That was also how Nam overcame himself to become more sociable and soon became one of the movement leaders at school. “I am proud to say that I have grown from the Team to the Youth Union throughout high school. At least it helped me to be more confident and communicate better” – Nam smiled gently.
Do Hoai Nam entered the qualifying round of the Ho Chi Minh City Student Leadership Competition 2024 right after finishing the first semester of his first year of university with the thought of "trying it out for the experience". That comfortable mindset, without much pressure, was probably an advantage that helped him gradually advance to the next rounds with quite good scores.
The strong candidates gradually emerged as the competition got deeper. They were final year students who had been cadres for many years and had experience in student union activities at various schools. Some of them had even trained the Youth Union and Association for the boys before, and now they became “opponents” of each other in this competition.
Nam is a new soldier in the student movement, not to mention the increased challenge of the exam questions, so there is a bit of pressure. “I don’t make it difficult for myself or set too high expectations or goals for the competition, although I am determined to try my best and focus my energy right from the qualifying round,” Nam shared.

Perfect every day through small things
He seemed to be completely different when talking about the movement, the activities of the Youth Union and the Association. Ask Nam what a student leader would be like? Without thinking, he immediately came up with the key phrases: talent, virtue, courage, balance, dedication, creativity and listening.
Nam said that a leader must gain the trust of the group. It does not come from speeches or eloquence but from the leader's virtue and talent. Only then can he call upon and persuade others to work together and operate the group's activities.
However, the industrial systems engineering student at the Polytechnic University sometimes struggled to balance his studies with Union activities. Nam admitted that the work of a leader with the activities and movements of the class, the school and even the activities of the superiors is very large and sometimes feels overwhelming.
“But I must affirm that it is thanks to participating in activities and working together in the Youth Union system at school that has helped me gain the ability to solve problems logically and systematically. Running activities and coordinating personnel is also the way I apply when solving homework in class, arranging learning with priority, goals, solutions and balancing them” – Nam confided.
Talking about volunteering to go to Lao Cai recently or participating in Green Summer and Volunteer Spring, Nam calls it his hobby, his goal and his motto in life. “I want to start each day with a good deed, even if it is small, but it makes me happy. For me, the goal is not the big result but the journey and experiences through each day that help me improve myself” – Nam said.
Successful leader
It should be mentioned that Ho Chi Minh City Student Leader 2024 Do Hoai Nam was also the champion of the contest to find the citywide student leader two years ago. He was the only male contestant among the six excellent contestants who entered the final round that year and Nam won.
This friend also has a "delicious" academic record when he won two gold medals at the Ho Chi Minh City 30-4 Traditional Olympic Games in high school, received a certificate of merit from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training for outstanding students studying and following Uncle Ho's teachings in 2022, second prize for excellent students at the city level in geography in the 2022-2023 school year...
