Labor shortages are causing difficulties for many businesses.

(Baohatinh.vn) - Many service businesses in Ha Tinh are facing difficulties in recruiting workers. This significantly affects business operations and the quality of customer service.

Despite having essentially completed its facilities and planning to open soon, Kapkao restaurant (Thanh Sen ward) is still facing significant staffing difficulties. For over three months, the establishment has continuously posted job advertisements on various platforms and actively sought employees through job placement services, but has yet to recruit enough staff to operate.

Although Kapkao restaurant has basically completed its facilities, it is currently still short of staff in many key positions.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, the restaurant owner, said: “To ensure we can serve customers when we open, Kapkao restaurant needs about 12 staff members for positions such as waiters, kitchen assistants, cooks, cashiers… but we have only managed to recruit 4 people so far. According to the initial plan, Kapkao restaurant was scheduled to open during the recent April 30th - May 1st holiday. However, due to not having recruited enough staff for the necessary positions, the restaurant has not yet been able to open.”

Kapkao restaurant has only hired 4 out of 12 positions needed to open.

The difficulty in recruiting staff has put many other service businesses in a passive position. At An Coffee (Thanh Sen ward), despite proactively raising salaries above the market average to attract workers, the establishment still faces difficulties in recruiting staff. The prolonged staff shortage has prevented the cafe from operating as planned, forcing a one-month delay in its opening. This delay has significantly impacted the business plan and operating costs.

Ms. Truong Thi Hai Yen, owner of An Coffee, shared: “When operating a service business, what we want is to always provide the best quality service to our customers. To achieve that, employees are especially important. They not only need to possess professional skills and a service-oriented attitude, but also commitment and responsibility to their work. However, in the current volatile labor market, recruiting suitable personnel and maintaining a stable team is not easy.”

An Coffee has to postpone its grand opening by one month due to difficulties in recruiting staff.

It's not just the food and beverage industry; many retail businesses are also facing difficulties in recruiting staff. For example, at the Michichi fashion store (Thanh Sen ward), the shortage of sales staff and accounting positions has caused business operations to become overloaded at times, forcing existing staff to take on additional responsibilities…

The shortage of sales staff and accounting positions has thrown Michichi's fashion store into disarray.

Ms. Phan Thi Hong Van, the shop owner, shared: "Although the shop has repeatedly posted recruitment information on social media and job groups, it is still difficult to find suitable staff because many young workers nowadays prioritize stable jobs or tend to work abroad."

This is also a common situation at many service and retail businesses in Thanh Sen ward and surrounding areas. Despite continuously advertising job openings with various support policies, many establishments still struggle to find suitable employees, especially in sales, service, bartending, and kitchen positions. The prolonged staff shortage not only affects opening and expansion plans but also creates significant pressure in operations and customer service.

To ensure continued operation, many establishments have been forced to downsize, reduce the number of tables, or shorten their operating hours. Meanwhile, many employees have to work intensely, juggling multiple roles for extended periods, leading to significant work pressure. This, in turn, affects the quality of service, especially during peak hours when customer numbers surge.

Many employees have to work at high intensity and take on multiple roles due to labor shortages.

Thanh Sen Ward is the central area of the province, with over 1,800 restaurants, food and beverage businesses, and thousands of other commercial and service establishments, creating a huge demand for labor. The increasing pressure to recruit, coupled with the increasingly unstable supply of unskilled labor, has left many shops and service establishments struggling to find staff.

According to Nguyen Minh Hien, Deputy Director of the Ha Tinh Employment Service Center: "In reality, seasonal workers in the locality are one of the most volatile labor groups, especially in the service, retail, and food and beverage sectors. Many young workers tend to seek stable jobs, so local businesses face considerable difficulties in recruiting and retaining staff."

Therefore, to retain employees long-term, businesses need not only to improve salaries but also to build a stable work environment with appropriate benefits. This will create a sense of security and encourage long-term commitment from employees. In addition, flexible working hours, guaranteed benefits, and opportunities for skill and expertise development are also crucial factors in the increasingly competitive labor market.”

The quality of service provided by staff plays a decisive role and directly reflects the quality of service offered by the establishment.

Labor shortages in the service and retail sectors are no longer a temporary difficulty but are becoming a major pressure on many businesses in Ha Tinh. As young workers increasingly migrate to markets with more stable incomes and benefits, many stores are forced to operate with understaffed conditions, with employees taking on multiple roles, leading to a risk of reduced service quality and business efficiency. This reality also shows that the labor market is changing in terms of needs, psychology, and job expectations, requiring businesses to change their human resource management mindset if they want to achieve sustainable growth.
