Specifically, information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development indicates that heavy rains and landslides occurred severely in Ha Giang on July 12th and 13th, 2024, causing very heavy damage to the locality.

Earlier, on the morning of July 13, a landslide occurred on a passenger bus traveling on National Highway 34 in Ta Mo village, Yen Dinh commune, Bac Me district, Ha Giang province. The incident resulted in 11 deaths, 1 missing person, and 4 injuries.

In addition, heavy rains damaged 46 houses in Ha Giang. Dozens of hectares of rice, crops, industrial plants, and aquaculture farms were damaged, and dozens of livestock and poultry died.

Regarding traffic conditions, heavy rains caused landslides on National Highway 34, approximately 150 meters long and estimated at 21,000 cubic meters ; 11 locations on provincial roads experienced landslides with 2,800 cubic meters of soil and rocks; 58 locations on district, inter-commune, and inter-village roads experienced landslides with 2,200 cubic meters; and one overflow bridge was swept away. Preliminary estimated damage is 6.5 billion VND.

Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, local authorities mobilized functional forces to urgently search for victims, visit, share and encourage victims and their families; mitigate the consequences; and erect barriers and warning signs in landslide areas and areas at high risk of landslides.

According to Vu Xuan Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), on July 13, 2024, a working group from the Department coordinated with local authorities to inspect, assess the damage, and respond to and mitigate the consequences of landslides in Bac Me district, Ha Giang province.

On the same day, Acting Secretary of the Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Manh Dung inspected the recovery efforts and visited the victims of the landslide in Ta Mo village, Yen Dinh commune, Bac Me district.

In order to proactively respond to the risk of prolonged heavy rain in the coming days, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requests the northern mountainous provinces to strictly implement Prime Minister 's Directive No. 67/CĐ-TTg, in which Ha Giang province should continue to deploy search and rescue operations and address landslide incidents.

Provinces and cities in the Northwest, Viet Bac, Northern Delta and coastal areas, Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions must strictly implement Official Dispatch 4978/CĐ-BNN-ĐĐ of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. They must also organize duty shifts and regularly report to the Ministry through the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control.

 

Following the natural disaster in Ha Giang, the Prime Minister issued Official Dispatch No. 67/CĐ-TTg on focusing on khắc phục (remedying) landslide incidents in Ha Giang province and proactively responding to rain, floods, and landslides. Last night (July 13), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also issued Official Dispatch No. 4978/CĐ-BNN-ĐĐ on responding to the tropical depression and heavy rain.
