16-year-old goalkeeper breaks Cesc Fabregas' record at Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has named a number of Arsenal veterans including Raheem Sterling and Declan Rice for the match against Bolton on the evening of September 25. In addition, the Spaniard also used three 17-year-old players and goalkeeper Jack Porter is only 16 years, 2 months and 10 days old.

Porter set a new record by becoming the youngest player to ever play in an official match for the Gunners. That record was previously held by Cesc Fabregas, who made his debut for Arsenal at the age of 16 years, 2 months and 12 days in 2003.

With first-choice goalkeeper David Raya absent due to a thigh injury and goalkeeper Neto unable to participate in the match, Porter was given the number 92 shirt, having the opportunity to make his first-team debut, playing the full 90 minutes of the match.

"Young players, including Porter, they often have to go to school every morning during the week. The reason I chose Porter is because he has trained with us since pre-season, I believe he can take on his role at the club as well as in the national team.

"I've seen his ability and what Porter can do. We believe he's the right choice," said Arteta about choosing goalkeeper Jack Porter in the match against Bolton.

Porter joined Arsenal in 2020 and has represented England at U16 and U17 level. He is the youngest player to appear in Arsenal's history. Another youngster, 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri, also shone in Arsenal's third round match of the English League Cup, contributing his first two goals for the Gunners in a 5-1 win over Bolton.

Rice, Sterling and Kai Haverez also scored, Bolton only got one goal thanks to Aaron Collins from the team's only shot on target. In the fourth round of the English League Cup, Arsenal will travel to Preston North End.
