The "capital" of peach and kumquat trees in the mining area is bustling with activity during the Tet season.

In Binh Khe ward, Dong Trieu city ( Quang Ninh province), known as the "capital" of peach blossoms, kumquats, and Tet flowers in Quang Ninh province, it's easy to spot bustling vehicles of traders coming and going to place orders.

After typhoon number 3, Ms. Lieu's family's kumquat orchard, which originally had 700 trees, now only has 400 left.

In the peach, kumquat, and flower fields of Ninh Binh area, Binh Khe ward, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lieu nimbly prunes the leaves on the kumquat trees that are taller than a person and laden with juicy fruit.

Ms. Lieu's family garden originally had over 700 kumquat trees. After typhoon number 3, the entire field was flattened, so the whole family had to work day and night to save the trees.

"Despite the significant damage, thanks to good techniques, the garden has now recovered over 400 trees. These past few days, customers have been flocking to place orders, with each tree priced from 1 million to over 1.7 million VND. Before, we thought we'd have a ruined Tet holiday, but now we can rest assured," Ms. Lieu shared.

Ms. Lieu introduced kumquat trees priced at around 1.5-1.7 million VND.

Standing and admiring the rows of kumquats at Ms. Lieu's family farm, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, a resident of Ha Long City and a customer placing an order, excitedly boasted: "Every year I come here to order kumquats to sell during Tet. After typhoon number 3, I heard that many orchards suffered damage, and I was worried that there wouldn't be any to sell this Tet. But now, coming here, I'm overwhelmed by the sight; I don't know which row to choose."

A few hundred meters from Ms. Lieu's family garden is the gladiolus flower garden of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy. Here, there are many wholesale buyers, with prices ranging from 5,000 to 7,000 VND per plant, requiring a half-payment in advance.

These are the gladiolus flowerbeds belonging to Ms. Thuy's family.

"The people of Binh Khe ward have a long tradition of growing flowers, kumquats, and peach blossoms, so every household is well-off. Currently, the entire commune has nearly 200 hectares of cultivated land. My family also owns nearly ten acres."

"The flowers are blooming beautifully this season. If we sell them all, we'll probably get around 25-30 million VND per sao (approximately 1000 square meters). Roughly speaking, we could earn several hundred million VND from gladiolus flowers this Tet holiday," Thuy boasted.

Mr. Tinh takes care of the peach blossom trees, hoping to sell them at a good price.

Leaving Ninh Binh, the reporter continued to the flower, peach, and kumquat growing area in Dong Do, Binh Khe ward.

While watering the peach trees in the middle of the field, Mr. Tran Van Tinh, a resident at the beginning of Dong Do area, recounted: His family's peach orchard has over 400 trees, planted nearly a year ago. Just as the trees were starting to grow well, Typhoon Yagi struck, devastating them. After the storm, his family tried their best but could only save over 200 trees.

"This time of year is crucial for earning income during Tet (Lunar New Year). If the plants aren't well-cared for, the flowers won't be uniform, and the branches will wither, making them very difficult to sell."

"Luckily, the trees are growing beautifully now. Every year, each tree sells for about 300-500 thousand dong, but this year the price will probably be higher because many places suffered damage from the peach trees," Tinh said hopefully.
