Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong receives President of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank

(MPI) - On July 16, 2024, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong received Mr. Kim Lap Quan, President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), who is on a working visit to Vietnam.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong highly appreciated AIIB for continuously expanding its operations, achieving many important achievements and maximizing its role as a financial support bank, providing capital to meet the infrastructure development needs of developing countries like Vietnam; expressing his hope that the visit of the AIIB President will open up many opportunities to enhance cooperation between the two sides, especially in infrastructure projects that Vietnam needs and wants to develop.

AIIB President Jin Liqun highly appreciated Vietnam's active contributions to the establishment and activities of AIIB in recent times. With the goal of building a prosperous Asia based on sustainable economic development and promoting regional connectivity, addressing development challenges through cooperation with development organizations, AIIB now has 109 member countries (including Vietnam), accounting for 81% of the world's population and 65% of global GDP; AIIB has approved 274 projects with a total value of about 53.5 billion USD for 37 member countries.

Sharing about the AIIB's operational orientations and support for Vietnam's socio-economic development in the coming time, Mr. Kim Lap Quan affirmed that Vietnam has great potential for sustainable development and said that AIIB will continue to support Vietnam through providing resources and finance to implement green infrastructure projects towards sustainable development and connectivity.

Appreciating the sharing of the AIIB President, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong said that the AIIB's development orientations on green infrastructure, regional connectivity and cooperation, technology-enabled infrastructure and private capital mobilization are all priorities of Vietnam; at the same time, he suggested that the AIIB study funding in key areas such as high-speed railway construction, seaport and airport development and new industries.

The Deputy Minister affirmed that the Ministry of Planning and Investment is ready to coordinate with AIIB to effectively deploy operations in Vietnam in the future as well as connect potential businesses in infrastructure investment./.
