Vietnam and the Czech Republic established diplomatic relations on February 2, 1950. Two-way trade in 2023 reached nearly US$1.134 billion, with Vietnam exporting US$958 million to the Czech Republic and importing over US$176 million from the Czech Republic.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , trade between the two countries has grown in recent years, but it remains modest compared to its potential.
Specifically, Vietnam exports to the Czech Republic items such as: coffee, pepper, fresh and dried fruits, peanuts, tea, rice, rubber, seafood, footwear, textiles, handicrafts, computer components, etc.
A large number of embassy staff and Vietnamese expatriates in the Czech Republic welcomed the Prime Minister and his wife.

Vietnam imports electronics, machinery, chemicals, garments, textiles, leather goods, equipment, milk and dairy products, pharmaceuticals, mechanical products, plastics, glass products, etc., from the Czech Republic.
The Czech Republic considers Vietnam one of its priority partners for economic cooperation outside the EU. The Czech Republic was one of the first EU member states to ratify the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).
Ambassador Hynek Kmonicek of the Czech Republic to Vietnam affirmed that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official visit to the Czech Republic is of great significance, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Czech Republic. The visit not only strengthens cooperation between the two governments but also contributes to consolidating the good relations between the people of the two countries, promoting economic and trade cooperation, and attracting significant investment from the Czech Republic into Vietnam.
Currently, Czech Republic is implementing a project to establish a joint venture for automobile manufacturing between SKODA Auto Group and Thanh Cong Group in Quang Ninh province, worth a total of 450 million USD (expected to be operational in Q1/2025).
In addition, the Czech group Seven Global Investment is finalizing the missing documents to acquire a 51% stake in the Mong Duong 2 coal-fired power plant in Quang Ninh. Vietnam has four investment projects in the Czech Republic with a total capital of US$1.5 million.
The Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic currently numbers nearly 100,000 people, and the Czech government has added representatives of Czech-Vietnamese origin to the Council of National Minorities, thereby recognizing the existence of Czech-Vietnamese people as the 14th national minority group.
