After losing to the Philippines, Indonesian fans are pinning their hopes on Vietnam.

Indonesian fans unexpectedly chanted the name of the Vietnam U22 team as their saviors after their team lost 0-1 to the Philippines in their opening match of the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games.

This defeat meant that U22 Indonesia, the reigning SEA Games champions, quietly watched U22 Philippines take the top spot in Group C and secure their place in the semi-finals. U22 Indonesia still had a chance to advance if they won convincingly against U22 Myanmar in the final match and hoped U22 Vietnam would beat Malaysia (or vice versa).

But if U22 Vietnam and Malaysia draw in the final match of Group B, both teams will advance to the semi-finals. This means that the fate of U22 Indonesia is now in the hands of Vietnam and Malaysia.

On Southeast Asian football forums, many Indonesian fans immediately called out Vietnam's name. Fan Indra wrote: "Vietnam will not accept a draw against Malaysia because they are stronger and don't want to face Thailand in the semi-finals."

"Vietnam and Malaysia will not shake hands. Malaysia wants to prove itself after the naturalization scandal. Vietnam does the same; they want to show Southeast Asia that they will win if their opponent doesn't cheat," wrote Kanajia, a fan from Indonesia.

"Vietnam U22 are the reigning Southeast Asian champions, they don't need to shake anyone's hand to advance. Trust me," commented a fan named Kijitman. "It's difficult, but hopefully Vietnam U22 and Malaysia U22 will fight their hardest," commented another fan named Rosjan.

In contrast to the positive opinions of the aforementioned fans, many Indonesian football fans have harshly criticized their team. Many fans have called for coach Indra Sjafri's departure, with the slogan "Indra Sjafri - No Netherlands, no party" (implying Indonesia's reliance on naturalized Dutch players) being a familiar comment from netizens in Malaysia and Vietnam.

Some other fans argued that the Indonesian U22 team deserved to be eliminated after playing like that and should have given their spot to a more deserving team. "Terrible! Playing like this, they should go home. There are many more deserving teams. Don't expect anything from this team," wrote fan Saffee.
