The conference was directed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (VH, TT&DL) and the People's Committee of Hue City, jointly organized by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the Vietnam Sports Administration, the Department of Culture and Sports, the Hue City Department of Tourism, Group 54 and the Vietnam Golf Association (VGA). Attending the conference were Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong; Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh; on behalf of the leaders of Hue City, there was a member of the City Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh.
Lots of development potential
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong emphasized: Golf is becoming an important part of Vietnam's strategy for developing high-quality and sustainable tourism .
In the vision to 2030, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism aims to develop golf as a high-end tourism product, a comprehensive economic , cultural, sports and tourism sector contributing to green growth, regional development and promoting the national image. Golf will become a bridge between sports, tourism, investment and education, where Vietnam not only welcomes golfers, but also trains human resources, organizes international events and builds a chain of golf destinations with Vietnamese identity. This is a concrete step to realize the "Vietnam Golf Vision 2030" - towards a sustainable, integrated golf industry with Vietnamese cultural values.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism encourages localities to strengthen regional links to form a “national golf destination cluster”, in which the Central region, especially Hue, can become the center of a chain of golf, resort, cultural, health and local experience products. Through this, Vietnam can gradually build the Vietnamese golf brand.
According to the Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, Nguyen Trung Khanh, golf is both a sport and an interesting entertainment activity and a service industry that generates large revenues. In Vietnam in 2022, golf tourism revenue reached about 600 million USD and is expected to reach 1 billion USD by 2025, accounting for about 2.7% of the country's total tourism revenue. It is forecasted that by 2030, this figure could reach several billion USD if properly invested.

Vietnam is considered an ideal golf destination in Asia with diverse terrain; long coastline with beautiful beaches; hills, majestic landscapes, tropical climate, very favorable for investing, developing golf courses and golf tourism. Golf courses in Vietnam are of good quality, built in locations with beautiful landscapes, associated with luxury resorts, spread across the country, creating an attraction for tourists to come for relaxation and entertainment.
Promoting golf tourism in Hue and Vietnam
According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong, Hue is the leading tourist destination of Vietnam and Asia, the center of the Central Heritage Road. Hue carries within itself the heritage values of the country and the world with 8 world heritages recognized by UNESCO, has many unique cultural values, rich tourism resources, friendly people and tourism has really made impressive changes in recent times. At this conference, with the participation of delegates, golf course owners, international golf associations and experts as well as large tourism and resort corporations, all expressed their support and sympathy for Hue, support for the development of Hue tourism and golf tourism and shared with Hue about the impacts of floods in recent days. On the sidelines of the conference, everyone contributed to support the people of Hue affected by storms and floods.
Member of the City Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized that Hue City clearly identified: Developing golf tourism is a strategic direction in the roadmap to build Hue into a "Heritage City, Festival City, Smart, Friendly and Sustainable Tourist City." Golf is not only a tourism product, but also a comprehensive ecosystem, where sports, resorts, health care, culture, environment and heritage blend together, creating a unique experience for visitors.
Currently, the city is completing the planning and calling for investment for 11 resorts combined with golf courses in the area. Typical projects such as Laguna Lang Co Golf Club - a masterpiece in the midst of nature designed by the legendary Nick Faldo - or BRG Golden Sands Golf Resort, which won the National Urban Planning Award, are proof of Hue's potential and vision in this field.

To develop golf tourism, Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh said that many solutions need to be implemented. In particular, it is necessary to raise awareness of the whole society about the position and role of the tourism industry and golf tourism in the country's economy. Identify this as an economic sector that brings high added value, creates jobs, contributes to the budget, and at the same time effectively spreads to other areas such as aviation, accommodation, sports, resort real estate and retail. In particular, it is necessary to perfect institutions and issue policies to support the development of golf tourism in Vietnam. At the same time, it is necessary to focus on building a training program for human resources in golf tourism that meets international standards.
In addition, it is necessary to apply science and technology in investing in construction, operation and management of golf courses to achieve high efficiency and protect the environment. Promote links and cooperation in developing golf tourism between tourism businesses and golf course investors to create attractive golf tourism product/service combos with competitive prices. Strengthen links between tourism businesses, golf course investors and localities to form a chain of golf products and services that combine relaxation, cuisine, health care and cultural and natural exploration. Finally, promote communication and promote Vietnamese golf tourism at home and abroad.
Nearly 700 million VND to support Hue people affected by storms and floods
Responding to the request of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Organizing Committee of the Golf Course Owners Conference - Vietnam Tourism Development launched a donation program to support the flood victims of Hue city, with the desire to send meaningful gifts to the people, helping them overcome the difficult period soon. At the launching ceremony, the units donated 690 million VND. |
As the founder and CEO of 54 Group, Mr. Jed Moore believes that the flow of the world is changing every day, from investment capital, the way audiences approach sports, to technology and media. In the face of this movement, Vietnam and its localities need a different direction, which is to use golf as a catalyst, but must look beyond the scope of golf, must aim for synchronous coordination between ministries, sectors, investors and the community in the same common vision.
Ms. Renate Roeleveld, Executive Director of the European Golf Course Association, said that Hue has natural advantages, beautiful golf courses and many cultural and historical elements to develop tourism. The problem of Hue is to develop a complete golf tourism ecosystem, associated with quality accompanying services.
Standing Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized that Hue does not develop golf in terms of width or number of projects, but focuses on quality, identity and sustainability associated with community development, environment and local culture, and is always ready to accompany investors with strategic vision, heart and social responsibility. As the host city of the Conference, Hue city wishes to become a "connecting nucleus" in the golf development network of the Central region and the whole country. Hue aims to become an annual meeting place for national and international golf events, a place to exchange experiences, test new development models and spread the good values of the industry.
