According to India Today, the crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner carrying 242 people on the afternoon of June 12 was one of the world's worst aviation tragedies in the past decade.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with flight number AI171 carrying 242 people, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members, crashed straight into a dormitory of a medical university and caught fire fiercely.
As of the morning of June 13, 265 people were confirmed dead, including victims on the ground. The only passenger on board to survive the crash was Vishwaskumar Ramesh, a British passenger sitting in seat 11A. He is being treated at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
Among the 230 passengers on board were 169 Indians, 53 British, seven Portuguese and one Canadian.

A large-scale rescue operation is underway at the scene of the accident. Rescue workers said temperatures in the area reached 1,000 degrees Celsius due to the heat of the explosion.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the plane crash was a "horrific and sad tragedy" and directed the civil aviation minister to oversee the relief operations.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to arrive in Ahmedabad today to inspect the accident site and visit the Civil Hospital where the injured are being treated.
The cause of the plane crash is under investigation. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the British Foreign Secretary is coordinating with Indian authorities in the investigation.
Air India's parent company Tata Group has announced compensation for the families of the victims, pledged to cover the entire medical expenses of the injured and support the reconstruction of the affected medical college's infrastructure.
