The doctors proceeded to pull the worm out. However, the head of the worm was very firmly attached, making it difficult to remove. After pulling a section, the body of the worm broke. However, the doctors persevered and skillfully performed each operation to remove the remaining part. As a result, the worm, nearly 1 meter long, was successfully removed.

After the procedure, the patient will be given a prescription and advice on diet and how to prevent tapeworm reinfection.

Route of tapeworm infection

According to Dr. Hieu, tapeworms (also known as tapeworms) are parasites with flat, long, opaque white bodies and many consecutive segments. When entering the body, they attach to the intestinal wall, sucking nutrients from the host, causing many health problems such as digestive disorders, abdominal pain, prolonged diarrhea, weight loss...

The main route of infection of tapeworms is through undercooked food, especially beef, pork, fish or raw salad containing eggs or larvae of tapeworms. Once in the body, tapeworm eggs will hatch into larvae and develop into adult tapeworms in the small intestine. If not detected and treated promptly, tapeworms can cause dangerous complications, seriously affecting health.

Recommendations for preventing the risk of tapeworm infection

To prevent the risk of tapeworm infection, Dr. Hieu recommends that people:

Eat cooked food and drink boiled water : Limit eating raw or undercooked foods, especially undercooked beef, pork, and fish.

Wash your hands thoroughly : Use soap and clean water after using the toilet, before eating, and after handling pets. Use soap and clean water, rub all surfaces of your hands, rinse your hands under running water, and dry them with a clean towel or hand dryer.

Proper disposal of manure : Do not allow human or animal feces to come into contact with water sources or cropland.

Environmental hygiene : Keep your home and kitchen clean, disinfect surfaces regularly.

Regular deworming : As recommended by doctors, especially those at high risk or frequently exposed to raw food sources, should be dewormed regularly.

Timely medical examination : When there are signs such as prolonged abdominal pain, diarrhea, unexplained weight loss, or detecting tapeworm segments in the stool, you need to go to the hospital for immediate examination.
