MU unfortunately lost to Arsenal from a set piece situation. |
Despite losing at Old Trafford, the "Red Devils" performance left many positive signals, especially from new recruits like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Daniel Sturridge affirmed that Cunha was the best player on the field.
Commenting on Sky Sports , former England striker Sturridge said: "I think Cunha lit up the stadium today. For me, he was the best player in the match. Cunha brought something that MU has never had before, making the audience sit on the edge of their seats with excitement. He will become a special factor for the team this season."
Roy Keane also said that MU actually had some positive points compared to last season, but warned that there were still many problems to solve. "Expectations at MU are now so low that people are satisfied even though they lost 0-1. They have to do better," the former "Red Devils" captain emphasized.
Meanwhile, coach Ruben Amorim affirmed that MU deserved more and was even a better team than Arsenal. He was proud of his players' bravery, but admitted that the team needed to overcome their weaknesses in set-piece situations.
MU left a positive performance against Arsenal. |
The Athletic analyzed that MU created a much brighter image compared to the decline at the end of last season. The "Red Devils" pressed fiercely, fought effectively in the midfield and made many fast transitions, typically Patrick Dorgu's shot that hit the post in the 30th minute.
However, the biggest problem was the finishing. MU had 22 shots, the most in a match against Arsenal since the 8-2 victory in 2011, but failed to score. Most of the chances were limited to tight shots, lacking lethality.
"Once again, MU revealed a difficult weakness when lacking a classy striker who can turn collective efforts into goals," The Athletic concluded.
United will be looking to pick up their first points of the season when they travel to Fulham at Craven Cottage next weekend.
